KINEMATIC TOPIARY HIGH RISE TOWER IN MILWAUKEE
Year : 2016 Course Title : Comprehensive Design Studio Studio Faculty : Gil Snyder Project Team : Justin Sager, Melissa Torres, Hrishikesh Pandit
The project pushes potential of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) technology by using and expressing the material in a high rise building. Conceived as the combination of CLT technology and curtain glazing, and the concept initiated further investigation into the potential of using complex structural systems and cable-net mullion systems. The ubiquitous curtain glazing system forms a pristine double skin façade which provides the necessary weatherproofi ng to allow for CLT to be exposed to the exterior. Vertical program blocks are nested within the double skin with conventional CLT and mullion systems; expansive voids between program nests are where more expressive wood and cable mullions are used.
