All fire stations share one goal: to provide quick, life-saving aid while smoothly blending into the urban environment as a vital service. This project’s main goal was to reconsider the location and operation of Mississauga’s fire stations, especially in areas that are expanding quickly, like West Erin Mills, where emergency response times need to be shortened.
Fire stations are often designed as static, single-purpose buildings, limiting their ability to evolve with changing urban needs. This rigid approach results in underutilized spaces when emergency services are not actively used, reducing their community contribution. Fire Station 123 rethinks emergency infrastructure as a dynamic, multifunctional space. It not only provides rapid response services but also integrates a public-use component. The facility includes a training and education center where firefighters conduct safety workshops, first-aid training, and community engagement programs. During non-emergency hours, designated areas function as public gathering spaces, reinforcing a sense of safety and preparedness in the neighborhood. The adaptable layout allows for future modifications, ensuring the station remains relevant as the city grows. Fire-resistant materials ensure durability, while sustainable features like solar panels and rainwater collection reduce environmental impact. Fire Station 123 challenges the notion that fire stations should be passive structures, instead positioning itself as a proactive and flexible part of the city. This approach redefines how emergency services interact with the built environment, setting a new standard for urban infrastructure.

Artscape’s “Creating Artscape Live and Work Studio” project is an initiative by Artscape, an organization focused on developing artistic environments. The project will integrate components from Queen West, such as art centers and theaters, and include a community learning aspect to promote cultural exchange. The building will feature a red brick façade on the lower levels, similar to neighboring structures, with a modern design above the podium. Key themes include: Art, Culture, and Education.
The building’s ground floor will house artist studios, exhibition spaces, and commercial businesses, creating a dynamic and engaging atmosphere. From the second story on, the building will house residential units of various sizes to suit individuals and families. Terraces, public lounges, and green rooftops will encourage residents to socialize while also promoting sustainable living practices. The design promotes ecologically friendly materials and energy-efficient technology in order to reduce the building’s environmental impact. The building embodies art, community, and sustainability. Its architecture embodies the ideas of inclusivity and innovation, as evidenced by dramatic architectural features and public art displays.
The proposed pergola is desiged for the camp’s Welcome Centre, as a great welcoming symbol. It serves a spot for campers and visitors. It is a 10’ x 12’ pergola with an 8-foot height. It is a welcoming entry point for campers and guests, with a check in point and information spot as well. It’s a place where can a group of the camp can take memorial photos.
Constructed with durable materials like wood, metal, or bamboo, the pergola blends seamlessly with the environment while offering protection from the sun and light rain. Its open design ensures proper airflow, creating a comfortable space for group gatherings, outdoor dining, or quiet moments of solitude. We chose our materials simple with a standard size by using 4’ which wood, weather friendly, easy to find in stores like homedepot or other. The pergola, is simple and at the same time will be as a symbol of this camp.
Seating arrangements, picnic tables, or decorative elements like climbing plants can further enhance its appeal. The pergola has been a great addition to the camping area, offering a welcoming space where visitors can unwind and connect with nature.

Mississauga, like many urban centers, faces a growing need for affordable housing—particularly models that promote communal living, social support, and accessibility to urban infrastructure. Zoning regulations and traditional housing models in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) prioritize single-use developments and isolated units, hindering the potential for integrated, community-focused affordable housing solutions.
This rigid, mono-functional zoning discourages alternative housing typologies, isolating people in self-contained units and failing to support the shared economies and social networks that communal housing depends on. This project transforms the former Target into a modular, mixed-use facility that brings residential, commercial, and public programs together. It introduces flexible living clusters, shared kitchens, co-working zones, and urban courtyards to encourage interaction and affordability.
By reusing existing infrastructure, the project bypasses zoning obstacles and demonstrates how big-box buildings can be reprogrammed for social sustainability. Its modular layout allows phased growth and diverse occupancy, making it adaptable to future needs and accessible for a range of users. The building supports a live-work-commune model with walkable access to amenities, integrated public spaces, and costsharing strategies—making communal living tangible and functional.
Commons at Square One redefines suburban density by proving that adaptive reuse can create inclusive, affordable communities reclaiming retail space as a foundation for shared urban life.

ARCH31618 Building Renovations
3425 Charmaine Heights, Mississauga, ON L5A 3C2 December, 2024
This renovation project aims to create a more spacious, functional home within a budget of $800,000–$900,000, targeting a total expanded area of 5,200 sq. ft. The design includes a rear extension to increase living space and a full renovation of the lower floor.
The lower level will be transformed into a private suite for the homeowners’ 22-year-old daughter, complete with her own kitchen, dining area, bedroom, and washroom. A new living room with views of the backyard and larger windows throughout the home will maximize natural light and connectivity to the outdoors.
To improve comfort and functionality, a new relaxation area will be introduced, the office will be relocated to the upper floor for better access, and the guest room will move from the basement to the lower floor to improve accessibility. A foyer will also be added to the main entrance to enhance privacy and flow.
This renovation is designed to optimize space, modernize the layout, and support multi-generational living, resulting in a home that evolves with the family’s changing needs.
