Re-devising Post Industrial Landscape for Public Use in Mumbai
Mumbai was an industrial center of India, and its transition from industrial era to de-industrialization led to a lot of leftover defunct industrial landscape, these post industrial landscapes are functionally irrelevant to the society. Currently Mumbai has the opportunity to reclaim these post industrial sites for public use. In this process, multiple aspirations, needs and conflicts play out. These sites are grappling with changing social and economical demands of the city, trying to thrive and survive. Usually in the process these industrial heritage sites are demolished to give way to the new, and the precincts start losing their identity in this reclaiming and redevelopment process, important part of the history is razed from the map of the city.
Aim
Re-devising Sassoon dock in Mumbai for public use, while retaining the identity & historic significance.
Design Query
Is there a method to retain the identity & historic significance of these post industrial sites ?
How can these sites be re-devised for the mutual benefit of the Local business & community, Citizens and the government?
Site
Central Warehouse Cluster inside Sassoon Dock, Eastern Waterfront of Mumbai.

Museum of Remembrance
Dismantling the Constructs of a Museum - Semester 9
Interpretation of a Museum
Museums should be temples of analogous experience that act as mediators between the Foreign & Familiar, Past & Present through archiving & narrating the collective memories of the society. Museums usually archive & celebrate the memories of collective pride & victory but rarely house & address the collective grief & conflict of Society.
The traces of these absent layers of history of collective grief & conflict can be vital instruments for the commemoration of the resilience & grieving of the community. These archives recall the past and reaffirm the future.
Site
Prince Of Whales (Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghralay), Mumbai.
Mumbai has been the host to multiple conflicts and incidents that have helped shape the city. Apart from these virtues of collective pride & celebration, Mumbai has had its share of major conflicts that have helped shape the city to what it is today, these conflicts have tested the resilience, courage & determination of the city. As ad aftermath of these conflicts, the city appeared under siege, a wasteland of broken modernist dreams.
Programmatic Interpretation
These narratives of collective grief & conflict can help us learn and reflect but for that to happen, first we must remember.
The museum should be able to combine learning, research & remembrance about the reasons for the causes & the aftermath of the conflicts, it should commemorate the conflicts and its contributions to the socio-culture, heritage & economy of Mumbai and how they helped shape the city to what it is today.

Remnants of Abolished History
The for symbolizes the decayed memory of the abolished history of Mumbai. The narratives of these events have been forgotten, but the presence of these remnants makes one wonder about the absence.
Garden of Silence
The colonnade symbolizes the countless lives that were effected due to the events of conflicts that shaped Bombay to what it is today. The columns extended towards infinity are now connected with arches, converting the colonnade into an arcade to symbolize the solidarity of the city and the citizens, standing tall and strong in face of these conflicts and emerging out of it stronger. It is also a reminder to the learnings of these conflicts.
Mediating The Remnants of Abolished History & the Garden of Silence
Slabs follow the language of the grid of the prince of wales museum that was laid on the site. The slab are not contained to the point of importance but takes the visitors to and through the point of importance. The slabs act as the integrating factor between the landscape and the point of importance.

• The importance of heritage value has started to Deteriorate / Disintegrate due to the lack of Awareness.
Design Intent
• The Disintegration of the socio-cultural & architectural heritage in the walled city area becomes the event that needs to be narrated in the design and the process of the design.
• The key words and the design principles become the tools for the narration of the event

Junaraj Forest Reserve, Rajpipla, Gujarat.
Process
The intent of this studio is to create a sensitive understanding about the climatic factors and learn about various design strategies and materials to tackle solar thermal gain, Passive ventilation etc.
The first art of the studio includes site visit and identifying a minimum of 10 sites in the reserved forest area. After the site identification a through site analysis needs to be conducted to analyze the layers of Slope, Sun path, Wind direction, proximity to water body, Flora Fauna, vegetation density and finally views and vistas, represented through Site plans and sections.
After the site analysis, the exploration of design strategies individually for every layer is done through conceptual Plans and sections and a matrix is created for every issue, the best design strategies are then selected and then merged to produce an outcome that deals with the natural factors without active energy consumption and create a comfortable living environment.
