Hi, could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

Hi there my name is Oscar Duke. I am a singer/songwriter from London. I have always been very creative & I love to perform. Since a young age I’ve been encouraged by my famous family to follow my dreams. You may recognise a few names.... Sir Ben Kingsley, Dame Penelope Wilton, Verginnia McKenna the list goes on! Singing and music has always been something I have focused on... and now I’m finally doing it for my career! Really I’m so grateful to be having the time of my life!

Tell us about your journey so far?

After experiencing the lows and highs of growing up. I learned to be strong and focus on what’s important. I thought for a while that I didn’t like my life but it was actually just the experience I was having. Now I feel truly blessed thanks to my connection to the world in a more deep and meaningful way.... I spend time meditating and using positive affirmations to keep myself feeling good! Finally after all my experiences to date, I’m ready to express myself through my music. I do love people. And I love to inspire, so I’m spreading a message that is positive! Since I started going to highprofile events with my celebrity friends and family a few years ago I’ve been building on what I’m good at & enjoying life to the full! Recently I launched my leisurewear brand DUKE. I have a TV show coming..... but this year is all about my music finally I’m working on my album!

What first got you into music?

Watching old movies as a kid at my auntie Lauras house... Shirley Temple, Marilyn Monroe, we’re my favourite singing actresses. Then listening to old jazz songs around the dinner table at my grandparents . Ella Fitzgerald was always playing.

Who inspired you to make music?

Mariah Carey in 2005 said I should keep singing when she heard me singing one of her songs.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

My music is an organic expression of how I’m feeling at the time. Part of my mission is to be understood. I like to make music people can enjoy!

What is your creative process like?

Sometimes inspiration flows and ideas come easily. But other times they do require focus. I think being totally honest with yourself helps to show your truth. People can always tell whether what they are listening to it’s real or not!

Tell me about your experience as a model.

Modelling is not really something I’m a natural at. Although I have been encouraged to do it. Sometimes I still feel uncomfortable in front of the camera. But if I’m able to be confident I can really smash it.

What first piqued your interest in fashion and modeling?

I’ve always wanted to look stylish and unique. I feel that when you dress individually you express your character to others better. Also a friend of mine competed in Britain’s next top model. That was inspiring.

What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?

It’s so hard to pick the highlight. Definitely performing on stage with Pauline Henry of The Chimes! I remember all of the press outside and film crew in the venue! It was so exciting!

What are your goals as a model?

My goals if I’m perfectly honest is to be totally relaxed in front of the camera. Also my true nature to come across.

What sorts of settings/clothes/brands do you prefer to shoot for or wear?

I love settings in nature and I like images that have some obscurity. To wear I love high-fashion & edgy clothing with a Luxy twist...... just add gold.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Versace!!

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Ariana Grande!!

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

Definitely...... Vision Of Love, Mariah Carey’s first number 1. Baby I, Ariana Grande.

Honestly being able to focus on my music has saved my life, it’s given me purpose.

And during the first lockdown I was writing this was very healing for me.

Oh one of the classics.... most likely an Ella Fitzgerald track.

Dedication, a good creative eye , consistency.... and a bit of planning! Do the images represent you and what you’re trying to promote? Don’t follow trends be unique!

Farfetch has unveiled a new capsule collection for Ramadan featuring exclusives from 30 Middle Eastern and international designers. The edit places a spotlight on modest wear and features more than 200 exclusive styles from designers including Oscar de la Renta, J.W. Anderson, Marchesa, Carolina Herrera, Tory Burch and Dion Lee, as well as regional brands such as Sandra Mansour, Sem Sem, Bambah and Shatha Essa, The collection for Ramadan and Eid combines both “classic favourites with looks right off the runway,” as well as pieces that blend traditions and global influences, explains Farfetch, offering comfort and elegance. Styles include tailored suiting, striking kaftans and modest evening dresses to luxe loungewear.

Edward Sabbagh, managing director of Farfetch Middle East, said in a statement: “For the coming Ramadan season, we wanted to ensure we could deliver a take on modesty with an ‘Only on Farfetch’ angle by working with a variety of global and local brands across core categories that we know to be in demand during the period.

$160M Beverly Hills mansion could become most expensive house ever sold at auction

A20,000-square-foot mansion in California is up for auction -- and with an asking price of $160 million, it could become the most expensive home ever to go under the hammer.

The 13-bedroom Villa Firenze is set across more than 9 acres of land in Beverly Hills, and can be accessed via its own private street, according to Concierge Auctions, which is handling the sale. The home is decked out with vaulted ceilings, multiple fireplaces and 25 bathrooms, while the wider estate features three separate guest houses.

The gated mansion is located in the exclusive North Beverly Park neighborhood, home to celebrities including Rod Stewart, Denzel Washington and Sylvester Stallone, according to a press release.

Designed by California-based architect William Hablinski, the property is described by the auction house as an "authentic Italian village."

Outdoor amenities include a jogging trail, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, pool house, tennis court and a courtyard big enough for 30 cars.

"This is truly a masterpiece that is quite possibly impossible to recreate," the property's owner is quoted as saying in the press release. "Many of the world's most desirable, coveted items are sold at auction -- and like these, Villa Firenze is also a work of art in itself."

The lavish home was listed by real estate agents Hilton & Hyland at $160 million, which, if achieved, would make it the most expensive residential property to ever sell at auction, Concierge Auctions said.

Despite the apparent risk, the auction house's chairman Chad Roffers said that auctions can be a better bet for people selling properties at the top end of the market.

"When it comes to properties valued in excess of $10 million -- let alone $100 millionplus -- the buyer pool is extremely limited, which typically leads to months and years on the market," said Roffers in an email interview, adding that the traditional sales method has its limitations.

In 2018, prior to being put up for auction, Villa Firenze had been listed for sale with with a reported asking price of $165 million.

"In Beverly Hills, the average number of days on the market in 2019 was 324," said Roffers. "Our research shows that if a luxury property hasn't sold within 90 days, it will likely remain on the market for the next three to five years and eventually sell for a fraction of the original price."

The auction will take place online, over the course of eight days, from January 26.

“Where East meets the West” As a fashion model and a travel blogger, I have been lucky to visit 52 countries to date and attended sporting and cultural events such as the Venice Biennale, Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes Film Festival. I have met many fashion designers and have been lucky to wear some incredibly beautiful gowns. Nevertheless, having come from an Eastern European background where elegance doesn’t begin or end with simplicity, but needs to be explicitly highlighted, I have always been fascinated by Asian fashion designs.

Let’s be frank, Eastern Europeans are similar to our Asian brothers and sisters in this respect; they love to display their elegance and dress sense when it comes to lifestyle and fashion. Modesty isn’t applicable when it comes to celebrating special events, such as weddings and special occasions, quite the opposite...I feel that every Asian gown that I’ve ever worn for a fashion show or a special occasion, carries out a unique story in its own right.

When post lockdown I had to go to Italy for work, the country where fashion was established at the time of Roman Empire; I felt that I needed to take my beautiful Asian gowns from my favourite designer Richa Sharma Studio to the next level, so I could show it off to an audience with very high standards. I’ve also accompanied the gorgeous and incredibly unique designs with beautiful, handcrafted jewellery from Saaja Jewellery Boutique.

Luckily, I had a chance to wear the beautiful gowns to a number of exclusive VIP events where I was complimented for my prominent but elegant style! This was something pleasant to hear in the fashion capital of the world. What I’ve proven again to myself and some renowned fellow Italian fashionistas is that when the East meets the West a beautiful fusion can be courageously curated. As William Makepeace Thackeray has said “Bravery never goes out of fashion” and let’s keep it this way ladies and gentlemen.

Mecanoo Selected To Design The New Macau Central Library In UNESCO World Heritage Site

"Mecanoo has been selected to design a new Central Library in Macau, China, the new building will be located by the Tap Seac square in the historical center of Macau, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Selected by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, the new library, covering a total of 15,000-square-metre area, will contain library with children’s, teenagers and general collection, exhibition spaces and multifunctional rooms, café and offices. The new library building is situated on the site of the former Hotel Estoril (designed by the Macau- born Portuguese architect, Alfredo Victor Jorge Álvares), which was the first casino resort in Macau opened in 1962 and has been vacant since the 1990s.

"Libraries are dynamic and continually changing. While clearly a contemporary structure within a traditional context, the new Central Library will provide a forward- thinking platform for influencing its surroundings," said Mecanoo.

In design, the adjacent square will become an integral part of the library, creating an activated public realm, which will encourage visitors to use all the public amenities that new library can offer.

The building's facade takes inspiration from the former modernist design of Hotel Estoril by filtering the light and creating a controlled indoor climate. An intriguing play of light and shadow is projected onto the floor and walls of the library. The continuous ‘L’ shape that defines the library volume and its uniform facade helps to redefine the square.

As Mecanoo highlights, the façade pattern acts as an extension of the bookshelves, from the inside out, from stack to protective shell. The uniform skin wraps the library volume and opens up like a book page to the main entrance facing the Tap Seac square. This welcoming gesture is an essential part of the relationship between library and square.

Rather than imagining the new Central Library simply as a cultural destination in Macau, Mecanoo’s design proposal is built around the idea of creating a journey – one that commences at city level via the Tap Seac Square and continues through a series of interconnected spaces, leading visitors all the way to the large reading rooms situated at the top level of the building.

The futurist mural designed by the Italian sculptor Oseo Acconci depicting Fortuna, the Roman goddess of chance, is preserved and integrated it in the new lobby welcoming the visitors.

Within the library, a soaring atrium opens to the uppermost levels of the building, allowing visitors to orient themselves immediately to the activities within and inspiring them to move upwards through the library.

As visitors move upwards via the spacious tribunes, the building offers unique views out to the mountain and the Tap Seac Square.

The current central library is also located by the same square and will continue serving as a more of an archival library after the new building has been taken into use. The key to the future success of the library lies in being inclusive, open and accessible. A place where everyone feels they belong.

At Dior, a Classic Smoky Eye Gets a Punk Makeover

Today, Maria Grazia Chiuri unveiled Dior's fall film Disturbing Beauty, a kind of sinister fairytale that found models stomping through the hallowed, reflective walls of the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. In exploring the dark side of the idealized stories that colored our thinking as kids, Chiuri reimagined the young female heroines that starred in them, such as Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, and Little Red Riding Hood, all with a grittier attitude. While each of these these themes was translated differently in the clothes, there was one distinct through-line above the neck: A sooty black smoky eye designed to rebel, full stop. "[Maria] didn’t want an eye that seduces," explains makeup artist Peter Philips of this season's vision. "She wanted a strong eye [that was] dark without being gothic." The nuances that helped achieve this? Some heavyhanded tightlining with a dark black Diorshow 24H Stylo pencil along the lashlines and an intense cut-crease that saw matte onyx pigment from the Diorshow Mono Couleur Couture palette smudged on the inner and outer corners of the eye, the negative space "creating a highlight with the natural skin tone," explains Philips. Q-tips were used to blend out the lines into a blunt, horizontal shape with a soft-focus finish. Lashes were intentionally left bare. "When you add mascara, it becomes more sensual," he explains.

"When you take away mascara, it becomes more of a conceptual eye...more painterly."

In explaining the mood of the look, Philips noted that the presentation's mise en scène rendered the eye statement even more dramatic, stressing that lighting and environment can have a radical impact. "The context of the girls walking next to mirrors in dark evening light with a spotlight enhanced that punk character of the makeup look," he explains. "If you were to see this look by candlelight, it would look much more romantic because then you see the glow in the skin and the soft edges of the eye." In other words, no matter what deep emotions you're feeling or which four walls surround you, it's an equal parts moody and versatile eye statement for our times.

New York’s Iconic Carlyle Hotel Now Has Its Own Clothes

Frame, the cool-kid denim brand, has a new collaboration. Not with a celebrity, artist, or even some buzzy in-the-know store—but with The Carlyle. Yes, you read that right— casual, L.A.-born Frame teamed up with the very Upper East Side hotel that, with its Dorothy Draper-era interiors and regular jazz nights, epitomizes the idea of “old New York.” Simply put: they aren’t the most obvious of pairings. But Frame co-founder and creative-director Erik Torstensson insists they have more shared design DNA than you think. “Since we started Frame, we’ve looked at classic, timeless style and The Carlyle is just that. As an institution it is elegant and sophisticated, but never tries too hard and stands proudly as it has for decades,” he says.

The collection includes two sweatshirts and a white baseball cap emblazoned with The Carlyle crest. It’s very much apropos for this pandemic age, where athleisure is the dominant aesthetic of choice for even the most elegant among us. Sure, the sweatshirts don’t like something Princess Diana, a regular Carlyle guest, would wear to Bemelmans Bar. But they do look exactly like something Diana, a regular Carlyle guest, did wear in paparazzi photographs outside her gym. “Polished and sophisticated, while also casual and spirited,” Torstensson says.

Why do this collaboration now? Partially because this fall, Frame opened their first store on the Upper East Side. But also because during this very unusual period we’re living through, cities, and their signature lodgings and clubs, are suddenly off-limits to large swaths of people. “During the past year, we have not been able to visit our favorite places—The Carlyle being one of ours, so we thought we would bring the Carlyle to you,” explains Torstensson.

The hospitality industry, like so many others, has been hit hard by the coronavirus.

(Especially in urban places—London is currently experiencing a 77 percent drop in international tourists, and recently, The New York Times reported New York City’s tourism numbers won’t recover until 2025.) Limited travel means less guests, and gathering-size limits means limited weddings and events. So the Carlyle is just one of many iconic haunts that are getting creative about expanding their brand beyond their gilded halls.

Now, hotels selling stuff is nothing new. Gift shops have been around forever. But what is different? The high-profile names these hotels are working with— and also, how they act as a muse for the final product. And many of these products won’t just be sold in the lobby: You can find The Carlyle merch, for example, on Frame.com and at their Upper East side store.

What Is Facial Cupping? How the Technique Can Help Release Tension and Boost Circulation

During a recent socially distanced lunch, I found myself more focused on my friend’s taut, radiant complexion than our actual conversation. Upon this admission (shameful for me; for her, flattering), she offered her usual regimen of all-natural remedies before espousing the virtues of a more proactive at-home option: facial cupping. I immediately opened the internet browser on my phone and, at her insistence, ordered Tata Harper’s Tata x Lure Facial Cupping Set, a duo of beautifying tools which have since become an integral part of my skin-care routine—and for good reason.

“It’s a very efficient treatment,” says Harper, who keeps her own cups in her desk drawer for impromptu use. “When you do it, you promote new oxygen-rich blood circulation, which helps strengthen the skin and all of the connective tissues. It stimulates collagen production, and I also love that it relaxes my muscle tension.”

Thought to have originated in China during the Tang Dynasty—though some medical references see cupping used around the world throughout ancient times—the practice of cupping utilizes targeted suction to encourage blood and lymph flow, easing puffiness and melting away lurking stress. “It’s kind of like a reverse massage,” says Harper. “Massage puts pressure on the tissue for tension release, but with cupping, you’re creating a really mild stretch. The suction effect pulls blood into the fascia area below the surface of the skin, creating new vessel formation which helps with tissue generation.”

“Circulation is really a key to looking beautiful and feeling healthy,” says Lorraine Lavenita, who works cupping into her facial treatments at Manhattan’s Lavenita Acupuncture and Skincare. “Lack of circulation equals illness, acne, infection.” While the benefits are evident, facial cupping requires a practiced—and gentle—hand. “It’s really important to control the sucking, because if you apply too much suction power, you may end up with bruises,” says Harper, who recommends a rich cream or a favored oil for maximum slip and minimal friction (Lavenita reaches for jojoba, or Dr. Alkaitis Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil. “Also, you want to stay clear of the throat and neck area, as pressure in either of those veins can do a lot of damage to arteries.”

Though cupping is the most effective (and relaxing) when executed in full-face fashion, quick fixes are also a plus. “If you have an event, or a Zoom meeting, and your eyes are puffy, you can just do it around the eye area,” says Ildi Pekar, owner of the eponymous clinic in Midtown. “Just put your eye cream on, do a little cupping, and apply your makeup.” In short, when used responsibly, facial cupping delivers an all-inone, meditative treatment for your skin woes. “That’s why I love it,” says Harper. “You get to do a lot of things at once.”
