INTERVIEW WITH MONIQUE LECLAIR

Could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

First, thanks for having me! My full name is Monique Nicole LeClair. I have French, Native American and Italian ancestry. I’m a proud Mommy to a gorgeous toddler named Nova. I’ve been a published and working model and actress since I was a kid. I’m also an artist who started painting in high school and have been commissioning work since college. I am a former wrestler, both collegiate and professional. I have two degrees, one in Art and another in Nursing. I grew up very outdoorsy and athletic in rural Florida just outside of the Everglades. I’ve lived in Texas and California but have recently made the decision to relocate back to Texas.

How did you decide to be a professional model? Who or what inspired you?

It was actually something my parents chose for me. I was modeling for Sears catalogs and had an agent before I could basically walk. I grew out of it at one point because it wasn’t fun working as a kid but I came back to it after college and earning my education. My dad was an actor and model prior to passing away of cancer. He was my biggest influence and

inspiration. I met Johnny Depp at six months of age while he was working on the set of Edward Scissorhands.

When did you sign with an agency?

I’ve worked with a couple of different agencies over the years as my needs and goals have changed, but my first agency was a local agency in Florida that had strong representation for kids.

What was your first job? How did it feel?

I don’t remember unfortunately but in middle school and high school, I felt awkward as most adolescents do, haha! To be honest I was more focused on music, art, academics and sports. Now that I’m a grown woman I’ve become more comfortable in my own skin. I definitely thrive and light up in front of a camera. I think entertaining and performing is just something you either love or you don’t.

What impact of social media have on your life as a content creator? Social media is such a strange concept I’m still adjusting to daily. I think it helps to have an established background and career prior to becoming a social media influencer because it’s so easy to get lost in the

system. There are so many people out there building a presence online who you never would’ve known about otherwise. There are definitely pros and cons to it but I think as long as you stay true to yourself and your brand you’ll succeed.

How will you handle your popularity?

I think popularity is a blessing if you use it in the right way. I pray every day to inspire myself and others while working to be the best version of myself. None of us is perfect. If we have the ability to influence each other on a greater scale and make an impact in great numbers, then popularity should be handled with nothing but gratitude and grace.

What is your personal style?

I’m a country girl at heart so I cherish a good pair of boots and a nice hat, but my style is very versatile. I’m waiting for tracksuits to make a comeback

How do you keep in shape?

I work very hard sometimes training twice a day. I promised myself when I got pregnant with Nova that I would stay committed to being in my best shape possible. In my personal opinion, I look and feel better than I ever have! I used to be a bikini fitness competitor, which for me, actually warped my idea of health and fitness. I wish I had been more mentally prepared for the impact competing would have on my mind and body.

However, I’m not against potentially doing it again in the near future. I think this time I have a lot more experience to bring to the table. Whatever your goals may be as far as fitness is concerned, I’ve learned that nutrition and consistency are two necessary components.

What are your greatest accomplishments so far?

My daughter, hands down. She’s the accomplishment and gift that keeps on giving! Every day is constant work and reward. I look at her and know I can do anything and I am raising her to believe the same thing about herself. Professionally, the coolest thing I did was shoot a music video with one of my teen idols Christina Aguilera.

What advice would you give someone starting out?

Stay true to yourself! Have boundaries, self respect and be impeccable with your intentions. Never sell yourself short for any amount of attention, money or fame. Stay high value, regardless of circumstance or situation. Also, remember obstacles and feelings are temporary!
