AN INTERVIEW WITH JURATE STASIUNAITE 1. Hi Jurate, could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

-Coming from a very humble background, built with a fire to achieve what seemed impossible then and put myself in a position to give back to the world... I knew from the beginning I have to give myself the best education and vast experience possible. It was hard, but I achieved and now I'm doing everything what makes me happy and satisfied.

2. Tell us about your journey so far?

-I started working at 19. My goal was to travel extensively and become independent from my parents. I have realized those goals already. Japan was my dream land and I always wanted to stay there. I did that too for 8 years. I started my own brand of high-end leather goods which saw reasonable success.

Now I’m at the point in my life where I want to follow my next passion, interior designing and currently focusing on it.

3. How would you describe your style?

-I like classy fitted attire, which looks sophisticated and elegant. I love vintage clothes from the 40’s 50’s 60’s. Women then were so beautiful the way they dressed, it made them look conservative and yet so sexy. I loved Elizabeth Taylor’s style, just perfect. I don’t follow trends or what’s the latest fashion blindly, I go with what I feel comfortable in.

4.What are the wardrobe staples that you can’t live without?

-My favourite pair of jeans I’ve had around 5 years and they are just the perfect fit and style. I am a huge fan of the double denim trend and love to pair these jeans with denim jackets for the perfect everyday look.

5.Do you have a favorite designer or high street brand?

-That is a very hard question! I can name my top 3! I have worked with extremely talented individuals. If I had to pick it be Yumi Katsura, Vivienne Westwood and my long-Time friend designer Laura Dailidiene from Vilnius she has made most of my show-stopper dresses and pageant winning gowns. She is also a very good friend of mine.

6.Do you have any style icons?

-My grandmother. She was not a wearer of labels, but she was always impeccably dressed. She had an eye for coordination. Everything she wore was part of an ensemble, not just a couple of garments thrown together.

7.How has your style changed over the years?

-I learned to take more chances over time and become more experimenting.

8.What are your fashion pet peeves?

-Mixed metallics bother me sometimes but I'm getting over it. Mostly now I just have a problem with tarnished or dull metals paired shiny ones which is easier to avoid.

9.Why did you choose to pursue a career as a model?

- I became a model because it helped me with personality development, gave me confidence in myself and in this process, indirectly prepared me for the corporate world. It also helped me to start traveling and become independent from my parents.

10.What is your favorite style of modeling?

-Editorial. I love how you lose yourself in the creative element of things. Its art. I love taking my modelling outside the box and test the limits on ideas, I like taking it to a whole new level by not confirming what’s currently in fashion, but what can be invited as the newest fashion trend. I model and do my best and let the work to speak for itself, it’s up to the audience how they interpret it. I don’t compare myself to others I just keep my head down and stay focused, I work from heart always.

11.What is your greatest strength?

-I have great problem-solving skill, which I consider as my biggest strength. It’s exciting for me to come with different ideas and solve unique issues.

12.What are your goals as a model?

-I would like to keep advocating for more sustainability in the fashion industry and educating the public on the actual environmental and human costs of fast fashion. I would like to give faith to the other young girls who dream about becoming model or having an international career. It’s not always easy but our generation has a big variety of beauty standards and fashion jobs now. The Fashion industry is always full of surprises.

13.What is your biggest fear?

-My biggest fear would have to be not being able to have enough time to spend with family and friends.

14.What are your greatest accomplishments so far?

-My greatest accomplishment is that I could participate in the most popular beauty pageants around the globe! I didn't think I could ever have enough confidence in myself to be a beauty pageant contestant, but it happened.

15.Tell me about your experience as a model.

-I have been modelling for 10 years since being scouted in Vilnius main street, when I was age 19. I have modelled in Lithuania as well as abroad for editorial, print, look books, artistic fashion, fashion shows and commercials. I have modelled in Japan, Malaysia, Italy, India, S.Korea, France. Modelling also got me into Beauty pageants. I dedicate and owe my success to my grandmother and to those who have supported my dreams along the way. Not everyone will understand your path as a model, so build and do good anyway with the platform. I hope my story can help other girls to never give up on their dreams.

16.We are huge fans of your Instagram. Do you have any tips or tricks for achieving an aesthetically awesome Instagram page?

-You need to be PASSIONATE. Pick one thing you love the most and put all your time and energy into it.

Whether it be fashion, beauty, modeling or anything in between. Keeping a consistent and up-to-date feed will make sure your followers come back from more.

17.What’s the one habit you have that changed your life for the better?

Every morning drinking warm water. Warm water flushes out the toxins, including fat deposits, circulating in the body, which ultimately improves blood circulation in the body and I feel good after that.

18.What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

-I like to walk a long distance. Sometimes I walking more then 10 kilometers for day. It help me to relax and calm my mind.

Go horseback riding in the Paricutín’s lava fields, Mexico

Spend a day with the Greek gods at the Labyrinth Park of Horta and you’ll find a place where time stands still. Located on the outskirts of the city, the park doesn’t attract the same amount of attention or crowds as Parc Güell, but it doesn’t seek it – only 750 people are allowed in the park at any given time to preserve its character. Make your way through the twists and turns of the park’s eponymous maze, where you’ll find a sculpture of love god Eros at the centre. If you can find your way out, climb to the upper terraces – a few people will be taking pictures of the pavilions filled with busts and statues of more Greek gods, but if you continue upwards into the hills, you’ll find fewer people and panoramic views over the city.Winding pathways lead you past shaded flower gardens, small waterfalls and ponds buzzing with the sound of bright dragonflies into secluded alcoves. Princess Beatrice wedding dress to go on display in the UK

Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice's vintage wedding dress, first worn by Her Majesty The Queen in the 1960s, will go on public display at Windsor Castle later this month.

The exhibition, part of the royal families tradition to display all wedding gowns to the public, is being organised by the Royal Collection Trust and will showcase Princess Beatrice’s vintage wedding dress designed by British fashion designer Sir Norman Hartnell, which was loaned to her by The Queen from September 24.

Princess Beatrice wore the wedding dress, made of ivory peau de soie taffeta, and trimmed with a band of ivory duchesse satin, for her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a small private ceremony at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor on July 17.

Sir Norman Hartnell’s original design was altered for Princess Beatrice under the direction of Angela Kelly, personal advisor, dresser and curator to The Queen, and the British fashion designer Stewart Parvin.

The full-skirted silhouette was softened to give a more contemporary, simplified shape, and the underskirt and petticoats were recreated and bound with silk tulle.

Short sleeves of triple organza were added to the straps and embroidered with vintage diamantés to match the original Hartnell embroidery design.

As the dress was on loan from The Queen, the palace has noted that each alteration made to the gown is completely “reversible”.

Inside the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition

The largest exhibition ever staged in the UK on the House of Dior opens at the V&A Museum on Saturday, February 2, featuring more than 200 rare haute couture pieces from 1947 to present day, including couture gowns worn by Princess Margaret and Jennifer Lawrence.

The ‘Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams’ marks the V&A’s biggest fashion exhibition since Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty in 2015 and is the first fashion exhibition to be staged in the museum’s new Amanda Levete-designed Sainsbury Wing.

The exhibition is a reworking of the ‘Christian Dior: Couturier du Rêve’, organised by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, with a new thematic journey that includes 60 percent new content as well as new sections, including one on Dior’s fascination with British culture.

There is also a recreation of the Avenue Montaigne Dior boutique façade at the entrance and the temple de l'Amour in Versailles in the ‘Historicism’ section, as well as a garden-themed section featuring thousands of paper roses.

Oriole Cullen, fashion and textiles curator at the V&A, said in a statement: “In 1947, Christian Dior changed the face of fashion with his New Look, which redefined the female silhouette and reinvigorated the postWar Parisian fashion industry.

“The influence of Christian Dior’s design was all-pervasive and helped to define an era. In their own individual ways, each of the House’s successive artistic directors have referenced and reinterpreted Dior’s own designs and continued the legacy of the founder, ensuring that the House of Christian Dior is at the forefront of fashion today. More than seventy years after its founding, the V&A’s exhibition celebrates the enduring influence of the House of Dior and reveals new research about Dior’s relationship with Britain.”

Drawn from the extensive Dior Archives, the exhibition presents over 500 objects, with more than 200 haute couture garments shown alongside accessories, fashion photography, film, vintage perfume, original make-up, illustrations, magazines, and Christian Dior’s personal possessions, across 11 sections that trace the history and impact of one of the most influential couturiers, as well as the six artistic directors who have succeeded him.

The opening room, ‘The New Look’ focuses on Dior’s famed Bar Suit from his ground-breaking first collection in 1947. At the time the design caused a sensation and revolutionised the female silhouette with the wasp-waist jacket and full skirt, now it is widely recognised as standing for Dior, and has seen subsequent Dior designers reinventing it over the years.

Spotted on the catwalk: Pantone's spring/summer 2021 fashion colours

The fashion weeks for spring/summer 2021 were full of colour. Pantone's colour reports from London Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week were also on the theme of 'the joy of colour' and 'flexibility and innovation'. Pantone presented a series of colours that dominate the season with an overlap between New York and London.

FashionUnited selected some catwalk looks from both fashion weeks, based on-trend colour. From mint to deep purple amethyst, indigo and purple rose. Besides an explosion of colour, the palette also includes some classic neutral tones.

Normally speaking this article only consists of catwalk photos, but lately, the fashion weeks looked quite different.

Where one brand presented a physical show, others went digital again or presented a lookbook.

Influencers are the retailers of the 2020s

Nguyen has worked with Net-a-Porter and commercial brands like Mango, but it’s when she’s partnering with independent labels and driving traffic to their direct websites that she fills the role of a “retailer.” At Lunya, Merrill has notably declined to partner with large department stores, mainly to avoid competing with them for online sales.

Instead, she and her team are putting that money toward thoughtful partnerships with a small group of influencers. “Influencer partnerships at Lunya have generally been born organically, with us leaning into relationships grounded in true fandom,” she says. “We want authenticity in our ambassador crew. Typically, these relationships start with an influencer posting about us, and then us building on that relationship.”

In years past, the main struggle was that brands often expected influencers to wear full looks, or they had strict guidelines for what influencers had to photograph or write in their posts. Now, most of those brands have realized there’s greater value in giving women like Nguyen creative control, both to get her excited about the project and to ensure the #Sponsored post feels natural.

“Until a couple years ago, we were still battling a bit with brands to make sure they were going to let us pick the looks and style them the way we want,” says Delphine Del Valle, Nguyen’s agent at Pool Creatives.

“Now, for the most part, they let the girls [embrace] their style and aesthetic. If we get the sense that there is rigidity from the brand, or they’re going to be forceful about something, we’ll pass.”

Del Valle also noted that as brands divest from wholesale—a trend accelerated by the pandemic when retailers canceled orders and sent truckloads of inventory back to designers—there are opportunities for them to work with influencers longer-term, perhaps over an entire season, with multiple posts or campaign shoots. “These brands don’t need the exposure retailers used to give them, and they don’t make any money when they’re selling like that [through wholesale]—only when they do direct-toconsumer,” Del Valle says. “And I think people would rather support a brand than a big retailer now.”

While some influencers are taking it a step further by launching their own brands (see: Chloé Harrouche, Arielle Charnas, Blair Eadie), the more compelling opportunity lies in the “solve for curation” Merrill was talking about.

Maybe that’s a pop-up shop filled with an influencer’s favorite brands—something that could become easier and more affordable as retail spaces empty and rents decrease—or, for influencers with a global audience, a similar shopping experience online. “People want to find that one place they can go, and it used to be Barneys,” Nguyen says. “Now they’re looking for a way to do that at home.”

Smilovic is trying out an interesting new approach at Tibi. After the pandemic hit in March, she chose to exit most of her department stores to focus on independent boutiques and influencer partnerships instead: “This spring, we’re working with an influencer in a whole new capacity. She’s a stylist who has cultivated a group of followers who seek her out for her distinct, honest viewpoint, and we will essentially be treating her as if she was a boutique,” Smilovic explains. “She can basically buy from us at wholesale and sell it to her clients as if she were a retailer, without four walls.

COVID really made us think, Why would we look at wholesale in such a limited capacity? If many of the department stores won’t survive, maybe this is a new model we should explore.”

'Ultra-Rare' Purple-Pink Diamond could Fetch $38M at Auction

An "ultra-rare" purple-pink diamond is set to go under the hammer, with auction house Sotheby's estimating that it could fetch up to $38 million.

The 14.83-carat stone, dubbed "The Spirit of the Rose," will go on sale in Switzerland next month, more than three years after it was uncovered from a mine in northeast Russia.

Taking its name from the 1911 Russian ballet "Le Spectre de la rose," the jewel was cut from an even larger rough diamond unearthed by the mining company Alrosa in 2017. Then weighing 27.85 carats, the initial find was believed to be the largest pink crystal ever unearthed in the country.

It took a year to cut and polish the oval-shaped stone, which will go on display in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taipei before arriving in Geneva for the November 12 sale.

According to the chairman of Sotheby's jewelry division, Gary Schuler, the diamond's rarity is a result of its size and color, which has been graded as "Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink." The jewel has also been classified as "internally flawless," a measure of its clarity, while the stone belongs to a rare subgroup of diamonds that contain little to no nitrogen.

Pink stones now account for five of the 10 most valuable diamonds ever to sell at auction, said the head of next month's auction, Benoit Repellin.
