the reservoir gateway

in 1870, the chestnut hill reservoir featured a large gateway at the intersection of commonwealth avenue and chestnut hill drive. 25 years later, the gate was torn down as commonwealth ave expanded into newton. my proposed additions to this popular walking path are to build a copy of the original gateway as a historical symbol for the reservoir, serving as a new public landmark, and to increasing shade opportunities along the eastern edge of the reservoir.

after before

food forest coalition as a design & construction intern at boston food forest coalition (BFFC) I worked closely with the construction & design director to host community engagement meetings across Roxbury and Dorchester. Amongst many projects, I created informational boards to visually explain the vision of the organization at community meetings and used GIS to create maps and diagrams to assist the Fundraising Director in securing funding for the organization. one of my largest tasks was to use data from the mayor’s office of housing to find city-owned vacant lots and overlay their locations on environmental justice and population data. these lots could potentially become food forest parks, and grow the network of local, fresh food in boston neighborhoods. the goals of BFFC, amongst many, align with my vision for myself as a future landscape architect. these goals are to increase green space equity in under-invested neighborhoods, increase resiliency against the urban heat island effect, and build stronger and more connected communities through shared spaces.

the gardens at terrace park

this studio project transformed the former-automobile factory plaza at assembly marketplace, somerville into a green, community-focused neighborhood that encourages human connection and art. native plantigs, and pollinator-friendly green-roofed community center, and art performances will become the new heart and identity of assembly.

the mojave desert

the mojave desert is a unique collection of regional and endemic desert ecology, covering portions of southern nevada, western arizona, and southeast california. I collected imagery representing various geological forms and exaggerated their scale and proximity to one another to create ‘horizontal’ and ‘vertical’ sections of the ecoregion, showcasing a variety of forms and ecological zones.

photography & models

this series of photos is an exploration of finding nature within an urban landscape. you find nature in urban environments when you notice the similarities between the exfoliation of a plane tree or a light pole, or the laticework of a chain-link fence or a honey locust. when you stop categorizing the things around you as natural or man-made, you can find moments of reverie in any place you look.

the models included on this page represent of my favorite compositions.

paintings

my favorite medium to use while painting is gouache. I am delighted by the paint’s flexibility to let you create washes of color as you would with watercolor, and then with the same paint just moments later, add opaque details nearly identical to how you would with acrylic. painting is a wonderful hobby that lets me express myself in differnt shades and hues, letting myself feel the mood of a painting shift and watch it transform with a few key strokes or with a gentle wash of color.
