“Travelling is not just seeing the next wonder of the world, it’s educating yourself with how everybody else is living their lives, it’s how the world is running miles away from where you are. I see travelling as my study book, a book that cannot be lent but only I can read it to you. I love to share my stories with others but telling my chapter isn’t the same as living it. I can recommend everyone to go, you don’t necessarily need to go far, just around the corner is often enough. Writing your own book with your own dreams and passions is the best gift you can receive from yourself.”

“Na Beijing trokken we naar Hangzhou. Daar aangekomen namen we onze intrek in de Zhejiang Medical University. Twee weken en een half maakten we kennis met de traditionele chinese medicijnen. Acupunctuur, cupping, tuina … we zagen het allemaal en waren maar al te blij als we eens proefkonijn mochten zijn. De field visits naar de ziekenhuizen maakten het plaatje compleet.

Op deze manier kregen we een beeld van hoe gezondheidszorg in China verloopt. Opmerkelijk om alle verschillen te zien en stil te staan wat het best helpt, Oosters of Westers.”

“Some people find fulfilment in a nice house, a good family, a secure job to sustain themselves. And I don’t blame them, it is how society raised us. In my opinion, that is a selfish way of living, it is based on our individual ‘survival’. What’s the point of our existence then? It might sounds a bit harsh but that is my perspective on life. Even small solutions can make a world of difference locally and can lead to sustainable progress, job creation and innovation. Co-creating with the locals makes this experience and project even more valuable. Teaming up and combining our skills was a learning process and challenge for both, where we were pushing boundaries to create a beautiful product where we can both profit from. And not only making something beautiful. By choosing a struggle or problem in the Philippines to make the product about, I show the locals, but also all people I will show my project to, the situation here, what struggles they face, it will spread awareness.

Next to that , it’s also sharing a passion for creating and motivating each other to make it good. It’s not just giving something, it’s working together as equals, building a bridge between north & south with product design.”
