Howell’s School Howell’s School is the only all girls boarding school in Wales, accepting girls from 7-18 years old. The School was founded in 1859, set in private parkland, and is close to the historic market town of Denbigh. We are 20 minutes from Rhyl station, with direct rail links from London, South Wales, and Manchester. We are one hour from the airports at Liverpool and Manchester, with direct air links to the EU and overseas. Our students come from the UK, and from many other countries. They have a world class learning experience, a unique care (boarding) experience, they develop international understanding and friendships, and have wonderful travel opportunities.

Boarding Howell’s has a unique approach to boarding, offering a separate ‘home from school’ experience rather than treating boarding as an extension to school life. Our care system is friendly and safe because we have a specialist team of staff (non-teaching) with experience in children’s care, supported by a nursing/medical team. This is a boarding system that is focused entirely on the welfare and well-being of each girl • juniors (7-10) have ‘housemothers’, caring for them and helping them • seniors (11-15) have ‘housemistresses’, caring for them and teaching them to be independent • Sixth Form students (16+) live more independently, and are prepared for life at university and beyond • all girls have excellent opportunities for sport, recreation and relaxation
We have three short-stay boarding programs for overseas students (11-13) at specific times each year • an 8-week accelerated-English program, with over 15 hours of intensive English teaching • an 8-week advanced-English program, total immersion in all classes and teaching of English through the medium of Drama • a 6-week integration program, with intensive English teaching and integration/immersion in some subject classes
We operate a personal transport service to rail stations and airports. We email or text parents to advise of safe collection, and safe drop-off, so there is complete continuity of care. We have three full time boarding programs; juniors (7-10), seniors (11-15) and Sixth Form students (1618) 3
