We can agree to disagree and still be friends. “Respect your parents, they made it through school without Google.” I found out this week that donuts and 3 canisters of coffee is the breakfast of champions if you want to act like an overcaffeinated Spider Monkey. The body count for stuffed toys destroyed by my Australian Shepard puppy this week is at least 3, the fluffy carnage is everywhere. Does anyone else think everything their dogs do is the cutest thing in the world? Howe had a whopping 11 penalties thrown against them Friday. The ref’s had to ice their arms after the game. Last Tuesday, the Howe City Council met to discuss a 17-item long agenda. However, the main topic of commotion was a disagreement among the council members regarding the recent decision made by Mayor Karla McDonald to appoint Monte Walker as the City Administrator Interim following the last City Council Meeting. The meeting began with Departmental reports. Chief Hudman of the Police Department reported 162 calls for service, 7 reports generated, 1 misdemeanor arrest, 2 felony arrests, 4 crashes

responded to, and 0 citations. Employees of the Department completed a combined total of 50 hours of TCOLEapproved training. Public works carried out 102 Service Orders for a total of 138.5 hours of work performed. Of those 138.5 hours, the majority of the time was spent on water issues for a total of 113.5 hours; 12 hours were spent on sewer issues, 10 hours on streets, and 3 hours on miscellaneous city matters. Howe’s volunteer fire department was established in 1951, but according to current volunteer Fire Chief Robert Maniet, it’s not going anywhere. “We’re still going to keep our volunteer division, which is a great asset because we’ve got a ton of people that love to volunteer,” Chief Maniet said to KXII-TV. The ordinance establishes a full-time fire chief position, along with four full-time EMT/ Paramedic positions that are available to respond to emergency calls when needed. “This is a huge step for us moving forward for the city growth and the growth of the fire department,” Maniet said. “This is going to allow us

This is also going to allow us to get our full time EMS up and running. That will be running through the city, and that will be a 24/7 ALS (Advanced Life Support) ambulance.” This will allow Howe citizens to be less dependent on outside sources for the vital city services.

Howe Interim City Administrator Monte Walker told KXII that protecting the citizens is always top of mind when making decisions like this. “A paid fire staff, EMS services, and a paid fire chief is going to be huge for our citizens,” Walker said. “Any time we can protect our citizens, that’s a big benefit.”
