2022 in review It was a pretty good year in Howe as far as community spirit. Outside of Howe, it was not a uniting spirit around the country as gas prices soared and inflation rips apart the pocketbooks of Americans all over the country. But in Howe, the boys basketball team made the playoffs, the boys baseball team made the playoffs, and the boys football team made the playoffs. It’s been a long time since all of that happened in one year. Howe saw a reawakening of the downtown victory light thanks to a move down to 3A-Division II and a new direction by Head Coach Lance Bryan. They also said goodbye to longtime Girls Head Basketball Coach Derek Lands who retired and hello to Ashley Anderson who has taken over. The city saw former City Administrator Joe Shephard swear in as city councilman. In the later part of the year, a change to surface water created a nightmare situation in the water that came out of faucets inside the city. The city approved three planned developments with one north of Howe High School on Ponderosa Road which will house commercial, multifamily, town homes, single-family, and build-torent products. A planned development on the west side of US 75 connected to Summit Hill will bring 1,000 homes with over 150 initially beginning. Another planned development rezoned a commercial zone in order to add multi-family units to the commercial area across from Summit Hill Elementary.
