Sesquicentennial willinclude two queens to be announcedto open the festivities

The Community Pep Rally is Saturday night at 7:30 pm. All kids on fall sports teams from kindergarten through seniors will be introduced. There will be plenty to eat and Chill Out Shaved Ice will be on-hand. ***** Howe will be celebrating its 150th birthday from September 12-16. It opens with Monday’s 1870’s style gunfight 6 pm followed by the naming of the Sesquicentennial Queens and dessert and games at First Baptist Church. At 7:45 on Monday, an 1870s Murder Mystery, sponsored by Tomlin Investments, will take place at Summit Gardens. Tuesday night is the Sesquicentennial Parade and watermelon feast sponsored by Cory Hernandez State Farm. There will also be Fischer’s sausage on a stick by the Howe Athletic Booster Club. Wednesday night is the Community Worship Service at Bulldog Stadium. Thursday night is the Chamber Dinner and Howe Historical Theater. Friday night is the homecoming football game. The Sesquicentennial Queens will be recognized all throughout the week. ***** Remember all of those “loans” that the government gave us during COVID? They just hired 87,000 extra IRS agents to get their money back. ***** August is typically a hot month, but this is getting out of hand. We’re in dire need for a storm. Ring, ring goes the bell

During the 1972 Centennial celebration, Kathy McClellan and Annette Partridge were announced as Centennial Queen and Jr. Queen, respectively. Partridge, now Annette Hartleben will on-hand to crown the upcoming queens on Monday, Sept. 12. Independent Financial is hosting the Sesquicentennial Queen contest where contestants will be responsible for picking up and selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a Yeti cooler. Proceeds will go to improve Connections Park. Queen registration forms are being sent home with students and online registration can be found by clicking here. The theme for 2022’s Pride of Howe Marching Band performance will be “Above” which all began from one of the band members’ singing performance of “Fly Me to The Moon” by Frank Sinatra. Band Director Angie Liss was given a soundbite of guard cocaptain Bettye DeLavan’s singing performance of the song which Liss and the team loved.

“When we were trying to figure out a theme, I thought it would be nice to have a vocalist again,” said Liss. “When I played that snippet for our music arranger, he just took off and we ran with it.” From “Fly Me to the Moon” the band will move into “Moonlight Sonata” and “Age of Aquarius” by 5th Dimen(Continued on page 3)
