Howe sophomore attains bronze medal at nationals in shot put

Anyone that played for Howe Head Coach Jim Fryar knows the term, ‘Finally, Finally Dogs!” as he yelled that to his players on the first day of 2-a-days, first scrimmage, and first game.

The phrase eventually morphed into somewhat of a battle cry by the players. ***** Football season is upon us. Rarely this time of year do I not think of Jimmy Johnson’s Dallas Cowboys and ‘what might have been.’ Egodriven Jerry Jones, owner of the Cowboys, desired the ‘golden-laced-credit’ and unappreciated Johnson’s impact on their success which eventually led to the end of one of the most dominating stretches of success in sports history. Nearly moments after winning a second Super Bowl, Johnson resigned. Could that have been the first time he thought about resigning? Honestly, it was probably brewing for years. Working with Jones’ insanely dogmatic attitude had to be tiresome. In the end, Jones landed another Super Bowl without Johnson and he temporarily had proven that he could do it on his own, albeit with the team Johnson built.

But since then, Jones’ Cowboys have only won three playoff games in a span of 24 years.

He might have been the youngest in his shot put class, but incoming sophomore Braden Ulmer brought home to Howe, Texas the bronze medal from the State Games of America on the grounds of Iowa State University in Des Moines, Iowa over the weekend. Ulmer threw a personal record 41’-7.75” which was enough to qualify for third overall in his age group.

A year ago, Ulmer became the state champion in shot put with a throw of 40’-5” at the TAAF Games of Texas in Corpus Christi. He has qualified for state for five consecutive years.

He’s the son of Terry and April Ulmer of Howe.

The State Games of America is an Olympicstyle event featuring competition between State Games medal winners (gold, silver, bronze) from across the nation.

But moments before that announcement was made, the Federal Reserve announced a hike in interest rates by 75 basis points and is the fourth increase this year. playoffs in 2016.

Harvey has the biggest challenge outside of Bryan as he will take over a defense that for the past two seasons have given up over 400 yards per game. But anyone who follows the Bulldogs knows that the heavy schedule of the “Little Big XII” had much to do with that.

Harvey’s first coaching job was in the Fossil Ridge system as a junior high coach. He worked his way up to the freshman staff and eventually varsity.

He then coached at Chico.

The 32-year-old coach has spent the last several years with Bryan at Sanger.

“It was a successful relationship. If you are around us enough, it will seem like we butt heads and we do not get along, but that’s just kind of our flow,” said Harvey. “He’s the yin to my yang.”

Harvey says he was second behind Bryan at Sanger as Bryan was the defensive coordinator. When Bryan was hired on by Howe, he immediately called Harvey as he wanted to surround himself with people he trusted.

Although, it was not an immediate answer because Harvey lives near Rhome, Texas which takes him nearly an hour and a half to get to Howe each day spending most of his time on SH 114/121 to US 75. The hardest part was gathering the blessing from his wife Brittney.

“I did not lie to him. I told him it was going to take a couple of weeks before I can give you a decision. Driving an hour and 20 minutes and with a 3-year -old (Jackson) and a 1-year-old (Bexley) at home, having to be away from them even more during football season was a tough decision, but I trust him. I have never seen him treat kids wrong and never seen him do something that was not that was not moving in the way of winning. He is a winner.

He wants to win. He is a kids-first guy and I believe in him,” said Harvey. “At the end of the day, it is something I could not pass up. If I truly did not think we could be successful, I would not be here.”

Not having seen any kids in pads just yet, Harvey says what he has seen so far in summer workouts impresses him. He likes the size of the kids.

“I’m real big on keeping my linebackers clean so I like size up front on the defensive line,” said Harvey. “I love the small-town vibes. I feel like there is something different about kids in a small town. They know work. If you have kids that know how to work, you are going to be successful.”

Staff photo. ry staff has an A-gap coach, but every staff must have an A-hole coach. More times than not, it is the defensive coordinator who assumes that role. But Harvey does not see himself in that role.

“I love winning. I really do. There are a million different things that are fun in football but winning is the best. Practicing may not be fun. Someone has to set that tone, and I take it seriously because you have to. Sometimes you want to let loose, but there’s other times where it is time to go. I want to win at all costs. That is me and if that means I am being mean or say things mean, I am doing it in the best interest in the kids. I want them to be winners because if they learn to win here, they are going to learn to win off the field and win in life. Successful programs produce successful people.”

Graham was hired in the middle of May by Bryan. They were across the field from each other for several years as he came from Krum.

“When he came to Sanger and I came to Krum, both schools were 0-10 and hadn’t had a lot of success,” said Graham. “I watched Coach Rocky Smart and Lance Bryan, who was the defensive coordinator, build up a culture and a program.”

Graham says he has not had too many interviews in the coaching profession, but the one with Bryan lasted as long as he has ever had.

“I came out of it knowing if he called me, I was in,” said Graham. “Sure enough, he called me, and I told him I needed a week. The next day I called and told him I was in. I was super fired up.”

With the culture that Graham witnessed that was erected and manicured in Sanger, he says the same thing is happening here.

Harvey says that he has already seen a change in culture recently. He says that perhaps his biggest asset on the staff is making kids focus on the little things.

“Coach Bryan’s expectations are to bring a lot of energy. He has been gracious enough to give me some roles where I have to bring it,” said Graham.

“I can make a great impression by doing all the right things the right way.

We are doing that, and I have seen a culture change just since I’ve been here. Kids are fired up to be here which is awesome.”

“Do it right, do it light. Do it wrong, do it long” is Harvey’s motto. “I feel like winning teams have that and I definitely have seen a change there.”

Graham says the philosophy from Bryan will be to keep things simple, consistent, and have the kids play extremely fast.

“As far as the defensive line, we have a saying that we play like Silverback Gorillas. We play with a bowed neck and a flat back. That is how we do it,” said Graham. “Defensive line is not exactly a glorious position. You are not going to get your name called out a whole lot on Friday night, but it is a passion and an attitude.”

With special teams, Graham says that it gets more important as the season matures.

“Unfortunately, I’ve been a part of two football games where I happened to be across the field from Lance Bryan and they executed special teams and we didn’t execute special teams and that decided the game,” said Graham.

Graham is a Krum native where his parents still reside. He said he is thankful that his girlfriend Ziann moved up here with him. He is a University of North Texas graduate who began his coaching career at Wortham ISD before being offered a job at his hometown of Krum.

Mosse, the hometown boy, says it is exciting being back in Howe as a coach, but it is certainly different than before.

“Meeting teachers again and half of the teachers, which is where I am, taught me in middle school so that’s very strange seeing all those faces again and getting those relationships built up in a different way,” said Mosse.

He was hired in mid-December after graduating from Midwestern State December 11. He began his duties in January just before Bryan was hired as the athletic director.

He was married on New Year’s Day to his wife Lexi.

The former Bulldog safety says he will be helping with defensive backs but considers his role as a flex coach.

Mosse was here during the Zack Hudson/Dale West era when Howe was a bonified football town. He hopes that the program will return to that situation under Bryan.

“When I was here, everything was revolved around that (football). You did not have to do much to get people excited. The culture was top-notch the whole time and everyone was bought in. We never had an issue with that,” said Mosse. “I do believe that the culture that we are building currently is what we want, and I believe the coaches that have stayed that were already here that knew the kids is a great start.

Coach Bryan has made a great addition with the weightlifting. You can see the kids starting to buy in as we get closer to the season.”

As previously mentioned, Mosse stole the Senior Night show in Howe as a sophomore. This was the same night his sister was named Football Sweetheart.

Even though that moment was nice, he says the 21-19 win against Gunter at home that year might be the biggest thrill.

In talking with all three coaches, the one constant from each of them is the sense of energy. Each are different in their own way, but it does not take long to understand that each of them has a passion and a calling for coaching kids. If the Howe Bulldog players of 2022 can match the energy from the coaching staff, one better push your tray tables forward and fasten your lap belts. You might also stow a jacket in the overhead bin, because when this thing lands, it could be a little chilly.

central bank has been highly debated since Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton famously broiled over the topic. We now live in an economic world where 24 mega banks control everything and recently they have become radical in creating excess money boosting Wall Street which has put us in a fragile position. The effects of their decisions have enriched the rich even more at the expense of the middle class.

How did this group of banking oligarchs come into existence and how did they gain so much power of the people without accountability?

Congress created the Fed in 1913 that insulated them from voters. The Fed was created to invoke the national currency of the US. Before the Fed, there were thousands of currencies in the US where each bank would essentially issue its own currency. The establishment of the Fed created a unified currency and the Federal Reserve Note in which we call the “Dollar.” To manage the currency, rates must be adjusted, and Congress initiated the Fed to not have a democratic process by means of the governing board being appointed by the President of the United States and approved by the Senate.

For decades, the Fed used its power within a narrow lane. It bailed out banks at times, but since the 1990s, the footprint of the Fed has grown ever

Our economic policy is controlled by the central bank which never answers to voters. Meanwhile Congress is sitting on the sidelines leaving economic development up to the Fed. In 1978, the Fed was given the “dual mandate” which was to of course manage inflation and keep the currency stable, but also it was mandated to keep the unemployment level low and to create as many jobs as possible.

During this time, the Fed doubled interest rates to stop the outrageous inflation, but by doing so created a jobs crisis and a brutal recession.

The Fed can boost economic growth by cutting interest rates which makes it

easier and cheaper to borrow money and fuels economic growth.

For the first century, the Fed’s balance sheet grew incrementally. The total pool of money (monetary base) was roughly $880 billion in 2007. Then between 2008 and 2014 during the housing crisis, the Fed created $3.5 trillion dollars which equates to three and a half centuries worth of printing money in just a few short years. And that was just the beginning. During the COVID crisis, the Fed printed another $3.5 trillion. Today, the monetary base is an intoxicating $9 trillion.

When the Fed was created, they were made to be subservient to Wall Street.

The architects of the Fed that met in secrecy on Jekyll Island in Georgia did not want the Fed to displace Wall Street, so they produced a plan where the Fed purchases from a group of 24 selected banks called “primary dealers” such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, etc. The banks have a special reserve account inside the Fed which has a trading desk in New York City. An example of how the process works is that a financial trader at the Fed can call one of the 24 banks and request to purchase $8 billion worth of treasury bonds. The bank then sends $8 billion worth of treasury bonds to the Fed. The Fed then creates, through a keystroke, $8 billion back to the bank. That is how the Fed creates more money.

In 2010, the Fed chairman Ben Bernanke wanted to boost economic growth through a jobs plan which required the printing hundreds of billions of dollars which became trillions of dollars on Wall Street. It is called quantitative easing. They kept interest rates at zero for roughly seven years which made the rich richer, created asset bubbles, and made it impossible to stop creating more currency. The Fed replicates this over and over until it has created trillions of dollars in the Wall Street banking system all in the hopes of driving up stock prices and encourage more lending to encourage economic growth. But the chickens have come home to roost.

The banks own the Federal Reserve.

We the people of the US do not. The banks may very well have US addresses but are highly privy to foreign influence. America resisted having a central bank for over a century. A charter took place, then revoked, then created another, then revoked again.

The Fed is made up of 12 regional Federal Reserve banks across the US in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Richmond, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Dallas, and San Francisco. But the governing board resides in Washington DC where the 12 voting Fed Board of Governors are appointed by the President of the United States and approved by the Senate. This governing board meet each six weeks to determine crucial decisions on interest rate experiments. They are perhaps the

most important group of board members in the country.

The Fed is a Frankenstein monster of a mix of a government agency and a private bank. The governing structure can get somewhat complicated and convoluted. Such as the regional banks are owned by local banks in their region, but the local banks cannot sell the stock they own.

What the rate hike the board just determined means that credit card expenses increase, mortgage rates increase, the cost of doing business increases. The cost of money is the mother’s milk for the economy, but the milk is getting too expensive.

“When you talk to people on Wall Street and in the market, in the hedge funds and private equity firms, they can explain these actions by the Fed and how they are massively distorting our economy and benefiting the very rich,” said Christopher Leonard— author Lords of Easy Money. “They are wrapped up in a PHD economic theory that often doesn’t resemble what is happening on the ground.”

The American citizen does not need to have a PHD in macroeconomics to enter the room to talk about the politics of money. Those in DC want it to be an overwhelming topic to the lay per-

son. But the subject is not that difficult to understand. The readers of the Howe Enterprise are sophisticated and can understand how the creation of excess currency devalues the currency.

The dollar is failing, and one can look at what is going on with the economic potential of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS). The US Dollar share of global reserve currencies is failing, and BRICS is trying to take the place of the dollar as the global reserve currency.

Revoking the Federal Reserve would be a near impossible process. Donald Trump’s populist movement was a step in that direction. But Trump would not be the first to take on the Fed. In the early 19th century, the forerunner to the Federal Reserve was the Bank of the United States. When Andrew Jackson became president in 1829, he vowed to curb the Bank’s power over the national economy, calling the institution “a hydra-headed monster, that it impaired the morals of our people, corrupted our statesmen, and threatened our liberty. It bought up members of Congress by the dozen and sought to destroy our republican institutions.” Today, many free-market economists are saying the same thing about the Fed. Water leak on FM 902 scheduled to be repaired this week

A lot of people noticed a wet area around the railroad tracks on E. Young Street. Howe City Administrator confirmed there is an active water leak in the middle of the west bound lane of east of Hughes Street. The Public Works Department is working with TxDOT to correct the problem as soon as possible. Because Young Street is also FM 902, it is governed

by TxDOT. Due to heavy truck traffic, more planning is involved than just

fixing a leak in a public street. Public Works is scheduling this work for today if approved by TxDOT.

Baled out On Monday afternoon, the Howe Fire Department was dispatched to a hay baler on fire in a corn field.

The owner was able unhook the baler and saved the tractor. Howe Fire Department arrived on scene and ex-

When big brother is banished to his room for these incidents, he is more upset about being punished than about hurting his brother. His lack of remorse bothers us. As a result, we've put baby brother off limits for a time. Are we expecting too much?

Let’s face it, folks, when a 5-year-old boy and a 14-month-old boy interact on a daily basis, the younger one is bound to experience occasional pain.

This is the almost inevitable consequence of having two boys, and you are going to go slowly insane if you assign yourself to the impossible task of preventing this from happening. For at least the next three to four years, until the physical disparity begins to level out, the younger one will experience more play-related insult than the older one. In and of itself, this isn't bad.

It's just the way it is. Boy play tends to be rough at times. Furthermore, the fact that big brother even wants to play with a 14-month-old is a good sign, an early indication of a growing relationship. Count your lucky stars that signs do not point to early resentment on the part of your first-born.

For example, if I'm trying to stay within the speed limit, but I fail to see a "Reduce Speed Ahead" sign and I'm ticketed for speeding, I'm not going to be remorseful. I'm going to be upset (albeit careful not to let the officer know). After all, it was not my intention to speed. On the other hand, if I'm intentionally speeding, trying to shave time off a trip, and I'm pulled over, I'm going to accept the ticket, apologize to the officer, and be a better citizen in the future. I have a strong feeling that your older son is being "ticketed" for unintentionally exceeding his younger brother's "speed limit." Under the circumstances, I'd fully expect him to be more upset than remorseful. He's being punished for being, at worst, clumsy.

When incidents of this sort happen, you should take the opportunity to help big brother understand the baby's limits. For example: "I know you want to teach your brother to play catch, but you can't teach a baby to catch by throwing things at him." Then, help him learn ways of playing that won't involve risk of pain to the baby, as in, "Roll the ball instead of throwing it."

You also need to praise him for his attempts to be such a good big brother, however awkward they may be at times.

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” The story of the eagle and chicken is about knowing our identity and as Luke 1:37 declares, “NOTHING is impossible WITH God.”

A sound mind is one of the greatest gifts we have been given and it’s our responsibility to guard and protect what it absorbs. The ears and eyes are windows to the soul and as the caretaker of our garden of thoughts, we must be very careful of what type of seeds are planted and allowed to grow.

We are reminded in Proverbs 23 that as a person thinks in their heart, so are they. You see, The farmer was aware of what the eagle was supposed to be, and knew if the eagle believed he was a chicken he would always live like a chicken. A true leader can recognize another leader and it was the zookeeper who understood the eagle’s potential and did everything he could to help him see his destiny. Many of us have been blessed to have someone who discerned our abilities and helped us fly. In turn, after we realize who God has called us to be, it’s our mission to help others that need the encouragement and inspiration to look in the mirror and see themselves the way God sees them. I know people who are confused and are without a specific direction as they say they cannot find their way. We may indeed be adrift, but God knows exactly where we are and where we need to be. If we sincerely seek Him in prayer, Matthew 7:8 promises, “For everyone who asks receives, he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

By John Solomon Two senior Republicans likely to chair House investigative committees next year if the GOP wins control of Congress say they are prepared to compel testimony from Hunter and James Biden about their overseas business deals and to use the power of the purse to force the FBI to address long-simmering questions about its integrity.

Rep. James Comer (RKy.) told the "Just the News, Not Noise" television show on Thursday night that if he wins the chairmanship of the powerful House Oversight and Government Reform Committee next January, he will methodically look to compel testimony from President Joe Biden's son and brother.

"We're gonna ask them to testify, and when they say no, then we'll subpoena them," Comer said in a wide-ranging interview. "So that'll be probably the first subpoena issued by a Republican majority."

Comer stressed that the subpoena wasn't an effort at further political embarrassment of an alreadyunpopular president, but rather an attempt to address the legitimate national security and ethics questions surrounding the Biden family's dealings with companies in countries like Russia, China and Ukraine.

"It's not that we're picking on Hunter Biden for political reasons," he said. "We believe that Hunter Biden and his

shady business dealings have compromised Joe Biden in some of the decisions that he's making, especially when you look at decisions he's made with respect to China, and with respect to Russia. So we consider this a priority for the American people."

He added: "We should consider this a national security risk, and we're not going to let up on it."

By Greg Piper The newly revealed scope of collaboration between the feds and Big Tech in stamping out purported COVID-19 misinformation and promoting government narratives has opened a new chapter in constitutional challenges to stateinfluenced censorship by private actors.

On Wednesday night, America First Legal (AFL) published the first 286-page batch of emails among CDC, Google, Twitter and Meta staffers, some of whom were former Hill and White House aides. The production was compelled through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, and typical of government document dumps, it's not text-searchable.

The emails show intimate cooperation was well underway by the time the White House a year ago acknowledged the effort, which included thinly veiled threats for not more aggressively removing content.

New Civil Liberties Alliance attorney Jenin Younes told Just the News it incorporated "the revelations about the CDC emails" into a filing Thursday seeking to reopen its case against the feds on behalf of deplatformed users.

A federal court dismissed that litigation a month before a whistleblower leaked documents suggesting the Department of Homeland Security's since-scrapped Disinformation Governance Board planned to "operationalize" its relationship with social media companies to remove content. NCLA cited those documents in its initial motion to reopen in June.

The document dump by AFL, led by former Trump White House senior advisor Stephen Miller, is also likely to help a lawsuit by Missouri and Louisiana attorneys general against the feds for alleged collusion with Big Tech to censor information on COVID's origins, Hunter Biden's laptop and vote-by-mail security.

The feds filed a motion to dismiss two weeks ago for lack of legal standing and failure to state a claim. The AGs' responses aren't due until next week.

Alito: U.S. seeing growing hostility to religious freedom

By The Center Square Staff Associate U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito said there’s a “growing hostility to religion” in a keynote address he gave highlighting the unique protection of religion in the U.S. Constitution.

“The problem that looms is not just indifference to religion, it’s not just ignorance about religion,” he said at a 2022 Notre Dame Religious Liberty Summit in Rome last week.

Those alerts — known as Suspicious Activity Reports or SARS — will also be subpoenaed and made public so Americans can see what concerned the financial institutions while Joe Biden was still sitting as vice president.

"There's not as much digging required with this investigation, which makes it all the more peculiar that the FBI hasn't already done something with Hunter Biden," Comer said. "I mean, he had 150 suspicious activity reports filed from various banks.

That means the bank was pretty confident that Hunter Biden was committing some type of criminal activity, but yet they did nothing. They knew Hunter Biden was influence-peddling in Ukraine, in Russia in the Middle East and China, but yet they did nothing."

Comer said his investigators have already gathered evidence that Joe Biden knew what his son and business associates were doing even as he professed on the campaign trail that he wasn't involved or aware.

"I believe Joe Biden

knew about all of it," he said. "And what we're seeing now — we've got the phone message where Joe Biden calls Hunter after this Chinese fiasco was starting to break, and he said, 'Look, you know, I think you're free and clear now. Everything's good.' So obviously Joe Biden was keeping up with that.

"Now we have text messages and phone messages that show that Joe Biden was communicating with many of Hunter's business associates. We're seeing call logs now, White House visitor logs that show that there were many, many communications between Joe Biden and Hunter's business associates."

Some Republicans are pressing for a special counsel to taker over the probe of the Biden family that has been led since 2018 by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Delaware.

But Comer said he's not ready to support that move.

"I want to see the House Republicans have a bite at the apple first," he said.

"I've not been impressed with special counsels in the past. I'm not impressed with [Russia collusion special counsel John] Durham. I wasn't impressed with [Whitewater Independent Counsel] Ken Starr. I would like to see what we can do."

“There’s also growing hostility to religion or at least the traditional religious beliefs that are contrary to the new moral code that is ascendant in some sectors,” he said during his 37-minute remarks released on Thursday.

He said he wondered “what historians may say centuries from now about the contribution of the United States to world civilization. One thing I hope they will say is that our country, after a lot of fits and starts, and ups and downs, eventually showed the world that it is possible to have a stable and successful society in which people of diverse faiths live and work together harmoniously and productively while still retaining their own beliefs. This has been truly a historic accomplishment.”

But “no human achievement is ever permanent,” he added, and “we can’t … assume that the religious liberty enjoyed today …will always endure. Religious liberty is fragile.”

“Religious liberty is under attack because it is dangerous to those who want to hold complete power,” he said.

While some academics and politicians argue religion doesn’t deserve special protection, Alito argues it does. Hostility to religion in the U.S. threatens religious liberty, which in turn threatens other fundamental rights it protects.

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects the free exercise of religion, he reiterated, which “very often involves speech, a spoken or written prayer, the recitation of Scripture, a homily, a religious book or article. These are all forms of speech. They are also forms of religious exercise.”

“If this sort of speech can be suppressed or punished, what is to stop the state from crushing other forms of expression?” he asked.

Alito pointed to attacks on the right to worship

and assemble in the U.S. in an era where the Supreme Court was tasked with ruling on cases brought by pastors, priests and rabbis who faced jail time if they didn’t close their churches and synagogues because of governorordered lockdowns. The Supreme Court consistently ruled that orders shutting down religious worship were unconstitutional.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Ninth Circuit received specific chastisement from the high court, which ruled that Newsom's mandates prohibiting religious assembly and worship were unconstitutional. As a result, the state of California and counties were forced to settle lawsuits, paying out millions of dollars to entities they had threatened with imprisonment and exorbitant fines.

After winning several of these religious freedom cases, Liberty Counsel founder and chairman Mat Staver said, “Governor Gavin Newsom’s COVID restrictions intentionally discriminated against churches while providing preferential treatment to many secular businesses and gatherings. The Supreme Court intervened multiple times to provide relief. California may never again place discriminatory restrictions on churches and places of worship.”

Pastor Rob McCoy of Calvary Chapel-God Speak in Thousand Oaks, California, argues the government doesn’t have the authority to shut down houses of worship at all. The rulings and settlements related to cases other than his implied that if restrictions were equally imposed on secular entities and houses of worship, the case for discrimination would be moot. Religious freedom isn’t about unequal treatment between a church and Walmart, for example, he argues, because the First Amendment specifically protects the free exercise of religion, not the free exercise to shop.
