Game admission tickets are $5.00 for adults and students and must be purchased at the gate. Reserved seats may be purchased at the high school office. ***** Some incoming freshmen parents have started a change.org petition to push the high school to allow their kids to wear shorts. Lots of people signed the online petition. Used to, people showed up at the school board meeting to verbalize their displeasure. But no one was there outside of the town scribe. As a parent of a high school student, I wouldn’t care if they had to wear a military uniform as long as they were never forced to “maskup” again. ***** Speaking of COVID, Joe Biden tested positive for the virus last week even after being double vaxed and double boosted. He even said a year ago this week that no one would get COVID if they received the vaccine. He joins others such as Anthony Fauci, Justin Trudeau, and a slew of other global government officials that repeated that claim and later tested positive. But don’t look now—monkeypox has now been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization. ***** Just a reminder, the midterms are approaching. At Tuesday night’s Howe City Council meeting, City Administrator Jeff Stanley discussed a budget amount of a tax rate that would be an estimated $0.53 and $0.54 per $100 valuation ad valorem tax. “Right now, the preliminary numbers are saying we’ll bring in about $1,040,000,” said Stanley to the council. Stanley told the council that a three percent raise is planned in the budget for all employees with the exception of the police department which shows pay increases of 15 percent due to the inability to hire police officers with the current pay schedule. “I’m doing this for the PD this year because that’s the only thing they’re asking for,” said Stanley. “Every year they ask for a car or some-

A month ago, Howe ISD had an unallocated amount in the 2022-23 proposed budget with a goal of increasing the compensation plan for staff members. In May, the district increased their salary schedule by $1,000 and all other staff received a three percent raise. With unanimous approval at Monday night’s school board meeting, a $2,000 increase to each step on the compensation plan and a four percent increase to all other staff.

High intensity volleyball was seen at Howe High School last week with Austin College Head Volleyball Coach Ed Garza making a return for the Lady Bulldogs Mini Volleyball Camp. He’s been in Howe each summer since 1998.

There were just over 30 participants for those in the age group of second grade through eighth grade. Garza also put on a camp for the high school Lady Bulldogs which was 25 in attendance. (Continued on page 6)
