Howe Librarian retires after ‘Loving it all’ Everyone has a 4th of July. Only America celebrates it as Independence Day. ***** Representatives from most of the local churches were in attendance on Wednesday for the planning of the sesquicentennial celebration. Lots of laughs were had when the Methodist in the room said she wouldn’t be surprised if the watermelon was turned to wine during the bonfire. The Baptist had to clarify that we were planning to serve ice cream in the concession stand and not the “confession stand.” ***** Recently, Austin Haley, an entering senior at Howe High School, was named All-Texomaland in baseball by the Herald Democrat. It marks the fourth time he’s earned that status and now in three different sports—all this before reaching his senior year. We had a chance to sit down and interview Haley and discuss many topics including the honors, the ups and downs of Bulldogs sports during his time, coaches, family, youth sports, and his trick shot video from his childhood. The one thing we failed to even discuss was that he is the all-time leading passer for Howe. We’ll release the interview in a couple of weeks. What a great kid. ***** The Howe Athletic Booster Club is selling ads in the football program. See page two for details. It’s the biggest fundraiser of the year for the boosters. Email for form. Members of the Sesquicentennial planning committee met Wednesday evening at Summit Gardens. Staff photo. Howe will celebrate its 150th birthday with a week-long schedule of events beginning Monday, September 12. On Monday, the Howe Area Chamber of Commerce will host an “1870’s style oldfashioned gunfight” that will be produced by Tin Star Entertainment thanks to the sponsorship of Tomlin Investments.

The comedy gunfight will begin at 6:30 pm in Downtown Howe with four entertainers. There will be time after the show for photo opportunities.

Kids gathered at the Howe Community Library last Monday for the “Touch a Truck” event. One of the machines on site was a Kubota tractor from a local dealership that we’d love to have advertise with us. Staff photo.
