Howe students traveled to DC and NYC The Howe Area Chamber of Commerce board met Wednesday night to discuss some changes to next year’s Founders Day as 2022 was not as well attended as in years past. Some of the ideas including moving the time to 10 am to 4 pm instead of the 2 pm to 8 pm as has been customary for the past several years. Drastic change ideas included rebranding it from “Founders Day” to perhaps the “Buck Owens Festival” which would celebrate Howe as the birthplace of the late country music star. Owens grew up in Sherman but spent his early childhood in west Howe on the current Smithwick property. No decision was made. ***** “The Magical Balloon Guy” will be at the Howe Community Library this morning (Monday) at 10 am. ***** Howe will celebrate the city’s 150th birthday during the week of Sept. 1217. Part of the celebration will involve a parade and bonfire on Monday night, an old fashioned gunfight and watermelon feast in downtown on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, there will be a community-wide church service and ice cream social at Bulldog Stadium. On Thursday, there is a chamber dinner and Howe history performance by elementary students planned at Summit Hill Elementary. Friday is the homecoming football gave vs. Tioga which was Howe’s first ever opponent in 1935. A concert at Bi-Centennial Park is planned for Saturday.
