Howe’s That—May 30, 1974 US Senator Lloyd Bentson points out that the world’s greatest democracy may be on its way to becoming the world’s greatest bureaucracy. He says: The small businessman, the farmer, the veteran, the elderly person on social security—all struggle along as best they can with countless forms, directives and questionnaires of government agencies. And all experience a growing inability to communicate with the faceless, nameless, computerized bureaucracy. Let me cite a few examples. “Small business, which are supposed to be encouraged by the government, are the target of 10 billions sheets of government forms and regulations each year—enough to fill the stands of 50 major league ballparks.” “Nowhere in bureaucratic indifference is more in evidence than the Veterans Administration. Recent delays and confusion in the payment of educational benefits are prime examples of this.” “But, such things as unnecessary paperwork and indifference are not the only problems of bureaucracy. There is also evidence that many government agencies, such as the Pentagon, are topheavy.” “Our military personnel costs have increased by $22 billion a year over the past 10 years, despite the fact that the number of personnel has been reduced by 400,000.” EDITOR’S NOTE—This column is reserved as an editorial column and may not necessarily reflect the policy of this publication.

Howe 12-year-old Cruz Garcia has now improved his record to 2-0 in the boxing field as won his match in the Junior Olympics Box Off in Garland recently. Garcia began boxing four years ago after a conversation with his father Sergio Garcia about wanting to kickbox. His father stated that he needed to begin in boxing before advancing to kickboxing.

Cruz Garcia, who will be entering the seventh grade in Howe, says that he now wants to stick with boxing instead of jumping to kickboxing. The sport has become a family tradition as Sergio, a former champion fighter, trains his son and has for the past four years. Sergio’s father was even a boxer. Cruz says the training by his father forces him to work out. “Even when I’m sick and throwing up, he says, ‘let’s go work out,’” said the youngest boxer. Sergio says he’s tough on his son because he wants him to get better and to also not get hurt. Cruz won a medal in his latest fight and received a (Continued on page 4)

park will be located on the east side of Howe on the curve where Young Street becomes E FM 902. A sign has been erected at the location stating that the park is coming soon. A 10-acre plot of land has been secured to build an outdoor recreational facility to improve the overall wellbeing of community members of

all ages. This park will provide elements to safely enhance the play of younger children, to go beyond general school sports that already have facilities for preteens and teenagers, to allow adults to walk, exercise, and play, as well as to create a place where larger gatherings can come together. The plan includes building a large, commu(Continued on page 2)

Bulldogs narrowly miss qualifying for state in 7-on-7 Monte Walker Monte Walker, owner of Grayson Publishing LLC will speak to the Grayson County Conservatives next week. The organization asked him to speak on the topic of “Truth in Media” as Americans all over the country continually deal with disinformation from legacy media groups. The event will take place June 14 at 6:30 pm at 903 Brewers in Sherman. Texas Ag Commissioner Sid Miller is the main speaker following Walker.

Positive role models and champions for a cause have always risen to face a great battle throughout history. The rulers of America (you and I) are going to have to rise and be that champion again or else face the real possibility of losing the most sacred sovereignty our ancestors died for—this Constitutional Republic called the United States of America. America has never been more threatened by outside and inside forces that want to destroy Lady Liberty than in 2022. That doesn’t mean we retaliate through violence, although it came to that in the 1700s. The best way to defeat the enemy is through education and intelligence—something Americans have been malnourished of for the past 60 years. Where would America be if students across this great land were highly educated on the civil liberties and God-given rights that were etched into the founding documents? Where would we be if every student was well-trained and wellarmed with knowledge of the constitutional rights? Where would we be if students were extraneously taught the writings of Paul and Matthew proportionately to Shakespeare and Wordsworth? We have transitioned our country’s educational system to send our kids (Continued on page 7)
