HHS OneAct Play advances to area finals

Last week was a good one for all the Bermuda lawn enthusiasts. March was the perfect month to put down your preemergent, but it’s not too late. If there’s a green Bermuda haze on the lawn, it’s time to scalp that sucker and get rid of that brown winter look. We put down some 1313-13 in March and the grass is waking up to a really good soil to feast on. In a couple of weeks, we’ll put down some 164-8 fertilizer to enhance root growth. One mistake we made a couple of years ago was overseeding perennial ryegrass and it battles the Bermuda and looks like a yard with weed spots. Not good. What’s also not good is the rising prices on fertilizer. ***** Obviously, now’s a good time to sell property in Howe as the local real estate market has never been this hot. However, it’s also a good time to buy property if you can because with the T.I. situation, it doesn’t appear that it will slow down. Besides, if you have money sitting in a bank, it’s losing its value in record-setting fashion. There’s money in dirt. The Howe High School Theater Department is performing Antigone, by Emily Mann for OneAct play and their most recent performance landed them in the area round of competition after taking first place in bidistrict. Antigone is the same script that was attempted in 2020 but was shut down by COVID. “I always felt cheated, like that show never got the chance it deserved,” said Director Katie Ciani. “When we were picking a show for this year, I originally had another script in mind, but I was unable to get publisher/ author permission for it, so we decided it was the A member of the team perfect time to revisit holds the bi-district Antigone.” trophy from last week’s performance. City of Howe to celebrate 150 years in September, planning underway

A meeting in April will determine the scope of the festivities for this year’s sesquicentennial for the City of Howe. The Howe Area Chamber of Commerce is calling for members of the community to help in planning in what could be a week-long celebration of activities similar to the 1972 Centennial celebration that led up to homecoming. The event is being planned for Sept. 12-17

during homecoming week. Current Howe Chamber President Monte Walker envisions activities that could include a homecoming parade, bonfire, Saturday night street dance, and other activities such as a Texas Hold’em tournament and dodgeball tournament. The Centennial Chairman was Bob Walker. His grandson will do the honors for the Sesquicentennial celebration.
