Voter turnout for Grayson County was virtually the same as March 2020 with 24.56 percent of the county turning out to vote. Turnout for Republicans were up from 14,119 to 19,523, an increase of 38 percent while Democrats saw an enormous 62 percent decrease in turnout from 5,964 to 2,268 compared to 2020.

State Representative, District 62 between Reggie Smith and Shelley Luther became a typical sophomoric dirty game of political mailers and sleezy television/internet commercials. Luther, who came to national fame when being arrested for opening her business during the COVID19 lockdown, challenged

Perhaps the most visible race in the county was the seat for Grayson County Judge where Bill Magers has held office since 2014. He was challenged by Sherman Assistant Police Chief Bruce Dawsey who made the announcement midway through December. Magers, who has run the county effectively through fiduciary policy, has also had numerous run-ins with law enforcement throughout the years which ultimately contributed to his handedly removal by the voters by a count of 12,273 to 6,800.

Howe’s Jaycie Grisham sets regional powerlifting record

Harley Brockelman, a senior at Howe High School won the Silver Shears Supreme Award at the Houston Livestock Show Breeding Sheep Show. This is the third year in a row she has won this award which is calculated by the exhibitor that has won the most prize money over all breeds in the breeding sheep show.

Brockelman has shown sheep since she was eight years old. She raises three breeds of sheep,

Haley hits two bombs to help push Howe to three wins during the week

The Howe Bulldogs got their full team together for the first time last week as the basketball players joined the team.

Junior Austin Haley wasted no time transitioning from the hardwood to the diamond as he hit a grand slam in his second at bat of the season. Howe went on the win 10-8 over Whitesboro. Junior Carson Daniels started on the bump and went three innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits.

He walked four and struck out two.

Senior Parker Pecina came on in relief and struck out seven batters in his three innings. He allowed four earned runs on five hits and walked three. Haley pitched one scoreless inning with three strikeouts.

Senior Kaleb McNutt went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs. Twin brothers Ethan and Luke Lopez each had a hit for Howe.

The Bulldogs then beat Lone Oak, 199 as junior Ryan Hough and senior Ethan Lopez each collected three hits and two RBI. Lopez scored four runs to lead Howe followed by Pecina with three. Sophomore Garrett Gibbs start-

ed on the hill and went two innings allowing five runs on four hits. He walked five and struck out one. He was followed by fellow sophomore Cooper Jones who pitched three innings allowing one run on one hit while walking three and striking out two. McNutt pitched one inning, allowing two earned runs on one hit. He walked two and struck out two. Senior Luke Catching pitched the final inning and gave up an earned run, walking three and striking out two.

The Bulldogs then defeated Trenton 14-3 as Haley hit his second homer of the season in the third inning. Sophomore Kolin Murphy went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Dogs. Haley collected three hits in the win while Hough and McNutt each had two hits.

Freshman Garren Lankford went five innings and was the winning pitcher by allowing three earned runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out three hitters. He was relieved by Murphy who pitched two innings, walking three but allowing no runs or no hits.

Smith for the seat but was defeated 11,372 to 7,718.

Another flip of county seats that affects South Grayson County was the defeat of Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4 Rita Noel who landed 1,293 votes compared to challenger Christina Fox’ 1,870. Noel has held that position since being elected in 2014.

Rick Dunn won the race for Judge, County County-at-Law No. 2 with 9,011 votes. He defeated Hillary Luckett Clark (4,584 votes), and Vanessa V. Vice (3,813 votes).

Texas Republicans chose to place their votes with incumbent Governor Greg Abbott who locked down their businesses, closed churches, and kept their kids masked at schools as he won with 67 percent of the vote. Allen West came in next with 12.3 percent and Don Huffines finished with 11.9 percent. Chad Prather garnered 3.8 percent.

Abbott will now face Robert Francis O’Rourke, who won 91.3 percent of the Democrat vote.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will head to a Republican runoff against George P. Bush as Paxton was unable to reach the 50 percent threshold at 42.7 percent. Bush received 22.8 percent. The Democrats will also have a runoff with Rochelle Garza leading at 43.4 percent.

The Republicans of Grayson County made these answers on the ballot to the listed propositions.

Four Bulldogs take all-district honors

The Howe Bulldogs, who just finished a historic basketball season, also fared well at the all-district meetings. Senior guard Luke Lopez was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year while senior Zak Defrange was named Sixth Man of the Year.

Junior Austin Haley and Sophomore Jacob Campbell were placed on the First Team All-District team. Senior Eli Wilson was given Honorable Mention.

Regional Powerlifting Seven girls from Howe competed at the regional powerlifting meet on Saturday. They included senior Jaylynn Huff, junior Jenna Clark, and sophomores Jaycie Grisham, Kayley Laubhan, Kimberly Gonzalez, Victoria Martinez, and Catelyn Armstrong.

Grisham finished first in the 148 pound weight class and will advance to state.

She broke the regional squat record when she lifted 345 pounds and then set a new mark when she pushed up 355.

Jenna Clark placed third in the 105 pound weight class.

Howe Police Report Howe man arrested on narcotics and firearms charges HOWE, Texas – Howe Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired at a home in the 700 block of North Collins Freeway in Howe Thursday evening and the subsequent investigation landed a 23-year-old Howe man in the Grayson County Jail.

At approximately 9:40 p.m., neighbors called 911 to report multiple shots fired in the Pradera trailer park and upon their arrival, Dylan Kyler Lucas, who did not call 911, told officers he was the victim of a botched robbery concerning a pair of sneakers. Lucas claimed an unknown person fired three shots into the front door of his trailer before fleeing on foot.

Howe officers Jason Jones, Sergeant Keith Milks, and Chief Carl Hudman interviewed Lucas and the other occupant of the home and recovered a firearm, a quarter ounce of marijuana, and approximately 100 Oxycodone pills which police assert Lucas were selling.

There were three children under the age of five in the home.

Lucas, a convicted felon, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of marijuana in a drugfree zone.

The most serious narcotics charge is a first-degree felony and if convicted, Lucas faces between five and 99 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

No one was hurt in the alleged robbery and the exact cause and nature of the shooting is under investigation.

Howe Officer makes arrests for catalytic converter thefts

in Van Alstyne. Sergeant Milks spoke with the three occupants and inside the Yukon he found multiple saws, burglary tools, and a catalytic converter which had been removed from a vehicle at a different location.

Milks arrested 23-year-old Tatum Hatcher and brothers Kinneth and Louis McKelroy, 23 and 20, and booked them into the Grayson County Jail on felony theft charges and for possession of burglary tools. Hatcher and Kinneth McKelroy are from White Settlement, Texas, and Louis McKelroy is from Denison.

Louis McKelroy was also booked into the jail for a parole violation warrant stemming from charges related to Assault of a Public Servant, and Kinneth McKelroy was charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Catalytic converters are exhaust emission control devices mounted on vehicles that have become a favorite target of thieves because of their ease of removal as well as their raw scrap value and the presence of trace amounts of precious metals like platinum and rhodium.

In 2021, Texas legislators enacted House Bill 4110 which increased the penalties for the theft of catalytic converters and imposed new regulations on scrapyards which are designed to curb the thefts.

To help deter thieves, the Howe PD recommends people park their vehicles in well-lit areas or inside a garage, install security cameras, and if they see suspicious activity around vehicles, immediately contact 911.

Howe woman arrested for stealing a police vehicle

HOWE, Texas – Howe Police Sergeant Keith Milks arrested two men and a woman early Sunday morning on a variety of charges related to the theft of catalytic converters.

HOWE, Texas – A 21-year-old Howe woman has been booked into the Grayson County Jail on a number of charges for her role in the theft of a marked Howe Police patrol vehicle Friday morning.

At approximately 4 a.m., an officer saw a gray 2017 GMC Yukon parked in front of a closed auto repair shop on the service road of U.S. Highway 75

At approximately 9:20 a.m., an investigator with the Texas Office of the Attorney General called the Howe

Friday morning the Howe Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a tractor-trailer fire on Texas Highway 289 just north of FM 902. Prior to arriving on scene, heavy black smoke could be seen and flames from the wheel area of the truck. The Howe Fire Department made a quick coordinated

attack on the fire stopping it from spreading to the cab.

Gunter Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Southmayd Fire Department were requested to the scene to assist with water firefighting operations. There were no injuries.

Lady Bulldogs jumping into district play

The Howe Lady Bulldogs (2-11-1) played a heavy schedule last week where they played six games, winning one and tying one. Howe lost to Pottsboro 7-0 to open district play. Howe’s only hit came on a Kennadi Barrett double. Ryleigh Craven started in the circle and went 4.1 innings, allowing one earned run, walking none, and striking out four. She was relieved by Railyn Murphy who pitched 2.2 innings, allowing no earned runs, walking two and striking out three.

Howe won 11-2 over Savoy with Jocee McCullar leading the charge with two hits and five RBI on a double and a homer. Barrett also homered in the win. Murphy went the distance for Howe allowing two earned runs in four innings, walking one while striking out seven.

Howe then lost to the Rivercrest Rebels 4-3 and only collected three hits in the game. Barrett hit a 2-run homer over the wall to drive in two of the Lady Bulldogs’ runs. Craven went 3.1 innings in the circle and gave up two earned runs on six hits, walked two and struck out three. She was relieved

by Murphy who got the final two outs with one strikeout allowing no runs.

Howe lost to Anna, 17-2 with Barrett and Murphy driving in the Howe runs.

Payton Stapleton had the other hit for Howe. Craven went two innings allowing eight hits and six earned runs.

She walked one and struck out eight.

Murphy, in relief, gave up four earned runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out two.

Howe then lost to Trenton, 6-4 as Howe again was only able to muster three hits during the game. Those came by way of Murphy, Barrett, and Kaitlyn Fuhr. Murphy went all 3.2 innings in the circle, allowing five earned runs on eight hits. She walked three and struck out one.

The Lady Bulldogs then tied Collinsville, 3-3 in five innings. Howe racked up five hits with McCullar and Craven notching two each. Fuhr had the other hit. Jordan Brunner had two RBI and Murphy had one RBI. Murphy also pitched all five innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits. She walked three and struck out two.

Howe then rounded out the week with an 11-8 loss to Sam Rayburn where Craven went two innings in the circle, allowing three earned runs on two hits and one walk. She struck out two.

Stapleton went 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in two RBI. Fuhr went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and RBI. Barrett drove in two runs as she doubled.

Brunner went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. She also had a double in the loss.

XYZ Meets "XYZ (eXtra Years of Zest) group will meet this Thursday, March 10 in Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church Howe. The program will be our own Terrie McLaughlin sharing her beautiful solo voice that we have come to love by singing several favorite songs.

Howe Police Report (Continued from page 5)

Police Department to request assistance with a woman in her care who was experiencing a mental health crisis. The officer went to the Dollar General store on L.B. Kirby Avenue in Howe and met with the investigator who said she was transporting the woman from Howe to an area hospital for evaluation when the woman became combative and delusional.

The officer and a local constable detained the woman and sat her in the rear seat of the officer’s patrol vehicle.

The woman was able to maneuver her handcuffs to the front of her body, climb through a narrow window in the partition separating the front and rear seats of the patrol vehicle, and drive away.

She drove north on U.S. Highway 75 and eventually exited onto the east service road of the highway. The vehicle became disabled when the woman ran over a number of curbs which destroyed the four tires on the 2018 Dodge Charger, and it came to a stop on the east service road of the highway several blocks north of FM 1417.

Officers from surrounding agencies responded to the call and detained the woman until Howe officers arrived and arrested her for Escape, Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. She was booked into the Grayson County Jail.

No other vehicles were damaged during the woman’s flight, and she admitted to officers that she had recently used methamphetamine

That's why the City of Howe has instituted the CodeRED Emergency Notification System - an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. Howe ISD announces weather make up date Howe ISD has canceled school three full days and parts of two days due to inclement weather. Two bad weather days were built into their calendar along with banked days above the minimum required by the state. One of the ISD’s designated bad weather days is April 15, which is Good Friday. However, since they have banked days available, they are going to keep April 15 as a school holiday. May 20 will now be the make-up date which was the other bad weather day on the calendar. This is subject to change should there be more inclement weather days.

8thAnnual Bulldog Run scheduled for April The Howe ISD Student Health Advisory Council has announced the 8th Annual Bulldog Run for April 30 at the Charles R. Thompson Gymnasium parking lot at Howe Middle School.

The event will include a 5K run and a one mile walk/fun run and health fair.

Participants registering by April 6 will receive a t-shirt on the day of the event (with paid entry). Those registering after April 6 will receive a t-shirt one to two weeks after the event.

Texas History Minute In the early 1900s, many city zoos did not have a significant number of animals to exhibit because of the difficulty in obKen Bridges taining animals from the far corners of the globe. And fewer cities could establish zoos for that same reason. Frank Buck, an animal trapper and adventurer, helped bring countless specimens to zoos in the United States and inspired generations of Americans to appreciate wildlife, all the while thrilling the public with stories of his adventures. Because of Buck’s early work with animals, he helped educate the public about wildlife and increased the popularity of zoos across the nation.

In 1923, he was hired to manage the new San Diego Zoo in California, with zoo directors impressed by his reputation and handling of animals.

However, Buck reportedly had many disagreements with the board of directors and resigned after only a few months.

Buck developed a steady following thanks to his exploits. In 1932, he coauthored with journalist Edward Anthony his best-selling memoirs Bring ‘Em Back Alive. The book’s success and his dramatic storytelling led to a movie and radio program of the same name. Later that year, buoyed by their initial success, Buck and Anthony wrote a second collection of Buck’s stories titled Wild Cargo.

Frank Buck was born in 1884 in Gainesville. He enjoyed collecting birds and other small animals throughout his childhood. His family soon moved to Dallas, where he attended the local schools. His most promising subject was geography, but he reported years later that the limited curriculum bored him, and he quite school in the seventh grade. After working a series of odd jobs, he eventually made his way to Chicago.

In 1911, he took an extended trip to Brazil and explored deep into the rain forests. Fascinated by the beauty and extensive wildlife he saw, Buck brought back dozens of exotic birds back to the Untied States with him. As he disembarked in New York, he found many people just as fascinated with the birds who then convinced Buck to sell them at a comfortable profit. Inspired, Buck then went to Asia to bring back more exotic animals to sell in the United States and began a life as an animal trapper.

For the next several years, he trapped and collected thousands of animals for zoos and private collectors. Over the course of his career, he captured snakes, birds, elephants, tigers, lions, kangaroos, camels, giraffes, crocodiles, and hyenas. Buck estimated that his expeditions took as many as

True, right? Right!

The question then becomes, are you trying to be liked by your child?

Other forms of the same question are…Does it bother you when your child acts like he doesn’t like you?

When your child acts like he’s doesn’t care for you, do you try to correct the situation? Do you desire, in your heart of hearts, to be seen by your child as a friend?

If you answered “yes” to those questions, then you have proven beyond a shadow of doubt that you are not of sound mind. In this case, a sound mind is defined as not caring one way or the other whether your child likes you at any given moment in time, or not.

What an odd concept, that being an adult who wants to be liked by a child.

Children are driven by their senses. A child will choose a sugar-laden, artificially purple-orange-colored junk drink over pure, refreshing water, for example. A child will choose sugarand carbo-saturated junk food over green food that grew in unadulterated soil. What an odd concept, that being an adult who wants to be liked by a child.

What, pray tell, does one say to such a person, given that he or she has unequivocally evidenced no evidence of a sound mind?

I suggest, “Good luck with that.”

Children are quick to sense when an adult wants to be liked by them. They may lack the ability to express their understanding, but keep in mind that

children are intuitively brilliant. When a child senses that an adult wants to be liked, the child begins to spiral—some children more rapidly than others—out of control. The child senses, correctly, that someone who wants to be liked is incapable of effectively correcting his behavior. The adult in question is acting like he is the child’s peer, and peers cannot effectively discipline one another. The successful discipline of a child requires that the adult act like, well, an adult.

Acting like an adult involves establishing an emotional and physical boundary between yourself and your child.

You can be friendly, but you can’t be a friend. You are available, but you are not at the child’s beck-and-call. The child is not the center of your world.

Quite the opposite: YOU are the center of HIS world.

You are a role model of what it means to be an adult. Your primary relationships are with other adults, beginning with your spouse. You are, from your child’s point of view, an interesting person who does lots of things with other interesting people your own age.

You don’t allow your child’s behavior to trigger and drive your emotions. If you often say things like, “My child drives me crazy sometimes,” then you are one of those child-driven people and I’m sorry to have to tell you, but the problem is not your child.

To be an effective boss, you first must be an impeccable boss of yourself.

And make no mistake, your child needs a boss, not a thirty- or fortysomething year-old friend.

A testimony about a miraculous healing I want to share a praise report of God healing someone I know personally. We hear about sickness and disease and the endless cries of why, but Dr. Billy Holland rarely do we learn about miracles when God intervenes and touches a person with His creative and restoring authority. In the New Testament, there are true accounts of Jesus asking what He can do for those who were suffering, and when they told Him their request, He said, “I will.” As Christians, we pray because we believe God is listening and that He will answer our petitions according to His perfect plans. His written word is His general will, and He also has a specific will where He speaks directly to us. This is where we need to advance in our spiritual discernment and sensitivity. For example, God says that He will bless a couple when they are married, but there is not a chapter and verse saying Sally will marry Joe. With every decision in life, The Almighty is trying to get our attention as He desires to lead us into divine appointments we commonly call, “walking in His Spirit.” Can you imagine how much more meaningful our life would be if we could develop a constant awareness of His presence?

I help manage a food distribution ministry that receives groceries from large markets and we give it away to those who could use a blessing. We have a team of ten individuals that work in this community outreach three times each week. One of the members, Wanda Humes is a very sweet Christian lady that unfortunately was the victim of a rear-end collision two years ago. The cervical vertebrae in her neck were damaged and the muscles and tendons have been pulling her chin down to her chest since the accident. This has caused her head to point directly to the ground without being able to lift it. Any attempt to raise her head was excruciating and so she has been walking around with not being able to see people when she talks to them. People are constantly criticizing her for not looking at them when they are talking to her. I have felt compas-

sion for her and occasionally I will gather the team around her to pray that God would heal her.

On Friday afternoon February 25, 2022, the trailer had just been unloaded and we were loading our vehicles to give the food away when suddenly I felt compelled to gather the two team members that were still there and to pray for Wanda again. I laid hands on her along with Louise Gauthier and Norman Cline and started asking Jesus to touch her neck. I said I believe that God can straighten bones, muscles, and tendons, and He is our provider and healer. I was pleading the blood of Jesus over her while these two witnesses were agreeing and together we sealed this request in the Name of Jesus. We left and went separate ways with the food. Fifteen minutes later I received a call. Louise and Wanda had pulled over on the side of the road shouting praise God into the phone, saying that Wanda’s neck suddenly straightened up for the first time in 2 years! She could raise her head and see the sky like it was before the accident!

We came back together about an hour later and were rejoicing when we saw her neck had been completely healed by the love and mercy of Christ.

We do not always understand why God heals some and does not heal others or about His perfect timing, but as I explain in my last book about miracles, there are so many factors involved. It’s not easy to discern the plans of God without fervently seeking His face and even then He is not obligated to share His reasons in every situation. We know that God spoke the universe into existence with His voice, yet many fail to believe He can speak to their sickness and remove it. The Bible says in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Be encouraged, He can heal anyone of anything. There is nothing special about me, I’m just a person like you trying to live for Him as I continue learning how to love Him and those around me. I humbly relay this testimony to you and declare that in this particular case, it was God’s will to manifest His power on this day at this moment for His glory.

By John Solomon JustTheNews Former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann engaged in “political deceit” during his contacts with the FBI and deprived agents of critical information that could have influenced the course of the Russia probe, Special Counsel John Durham declared in a new filing asking a court not to dismiss his criminal case.

Sussmann recently asked the trial judge to dismiss a charge of lying to the FBI, arguing his alleged false statement to the FBI was not material to the case and was protected by the First Amendment. The lawyer is accused of lying to the FBI when he claimed he was not working on behalf of any clients when he delivered dirt on thencandidate Donald Trump to the FBI general counsel alleging the GOP nominee had a secret computer channel to the Kremlin.

In fact, FBI agents found

no evidence that the computer channel existed, and Sussmann was in fact working on behalf of the Clinton campaign and a computer executive aligned with the campaign when he approached the FBI, his indictment last fall alleged.

Durham responded Friday with a sweeping rebuke of Sussmann’s conduct in 2016 and 2017, saying as a former Justice Deparyment lawyer he knew that giving false information to the FBI undercut the tenets of the legal system.

"Far from finding himself in the vulnerable position of an ordinary person whose speech is likely to be chilled, the defendant – a sophisticated and well-connected lawyer – chose to bring politically-charged allegations to the FBI’s chief legal officer at the height of an election season,” Durham wrote the judge.

The Thomas More Society challenged the use of the so-called Zuckerbucks last year. In December the Elections Commission dismissed their complaint, saying the nearly $9 million in grants were not technically illegal. Kaardal said at the time he was planning on appealing that ruling in court.

Rep. Dave Murphy, RGreenville, said the legislature needs to continue

its investigation as well.

“We’re getting a lot of good evidence,” Murphy said. “Maybe we’ll take it to the level of proof.

But I would say we’re not there yet, but we’re getting much closer.”

Kaardal said the Gableman investigation also highlights just how hard it is to get answers from a recalcitrant government.

“If the government has difficulty investigating the government, then the people are going to have difficulty investigating the government,” Kaardal explained.
