Bulldogs win 5-straight, send fans into frenzy with two overtime wins
Lots of things were rescheduled and stores were closed parts of last week. We’ve had a lot of practice at that over the last couple of years. It was nice to see that there wasn’t a run on toilet paper before the ice storm. ***** Football realignment rolled around and the Twitter world almost broke in the Lone Star State on Thursday morning. ***** Six more weeks of winter, according to Punxsutawney Phil, the world's most famous weather-prognosticating groundhog. One more day and P.P. would have met snow. But I’m sure than happened somewhere in town anyway. ***** GoFundMe has frozen $9 million in donations for the peaceful Canada trucker’s freedom campaign. Mainstream media has made the Canadian Revolution seem hateful and violent, but people have been streaming it live. ***** Say hello to Guns N More, the newest advertiser below. They have a new storefront also. EDITOR’S NOTE—This column is reserved as an editorial column and may not necessarily reflect the policy of this publication.

The Howe Bulldogs (128, 7-4) have found themselves on the doorstep of their first playoff berth since the 2017-18 season. But this not only includes basketball, but the playoff drought has touched every boys team sport since that season. Back-to-back overtime wins against Gunter and Blue Ridge have set them up for their final three games with district leaders Bells and Leonard and a regular season finale with Whitewright. Two losses could send Howe into a mathematical quandary depending on the results of upcoming games of Gunter, Blue Ridge, and Pottsboro. On Tuesday night, the ice storm might have begun through Austin

Haley’s veins as he dropped in a 3-pointer as time expired in overtime for a crowd erupting 3330 win at Gunter. Jacob Campbell then perhaps melted the ice with his sizzling perfect shooting at the line that sank Blue Ridge in overtime, 4137.

UILrealignment has Bulldogs football fans confident of turnaround Howe ISD turned in an enrollment number of 349 to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) back in October which turned out to be just barely enough to keep them out of 3A Division I in football again and most likely into the same scenario as before with long traveling games with much larger schools who take football seriously. The move down to 3A Division II was a monumental for Bulldog fans, but most importantly the players in the football program. Howe will no longer

have the dubious honor of being the opposing team’s homecoming each week. Coming off an 0-10 record for the second straight year, opposing teams might still be tempted to place that designation, however, when they look under the hood of the Bulldogs

Howe ISD made the call Wednesday to cancel school for Thursday knowing that bad weather was heading into North Texas. The City of Howe followed suit by closing City Hall and the EDC/Chamber office. As snow fell most of the day on Thursday, the roads became hazardous which called for the ISD and city to make
the announcement to close on Friday also. Some businesses remained open while others were closed. The temperatures were nowhere near the historic sub-zero freeze of a year ago. On Thursday, an unofficial readout of 24 degrees was captured on the Howe High School marquee sign on High-
way 5. On Friday, it warmed up a bit to 31 degrees midday, however, the roads were still unsafe. Howe’s basketball games with Blue Ridge which were scheduled for Friday night were moved to Saturday afternoon. Many lessons were learned from a year ago
