Bulldogs enter the Lance Bryan era Those that want to meet Howe’s new head coach and athletic director can do so tonight by attending the Howe Athletic Booster Club meeting at the high school lecture hall at 6 pm. ***** The more things change, the more they stay the same. As a sophomore starter for the Howe Bulldogs in 1989, our coach Jim Fryar resigned about this time of year. Howe then hired a young upcoming head coach named Joey McQueen who became one of the most influential people in my life. Fast forward 32 years and here we are again with my son who is a sophomore and in the same exact situation for the same team. My prayers are that Lance Bryan is to my son what Joey McQueen was (and is) to me. It’s not just about being a football coach— it’s a positive impact that lasts a lifetime. I didn’t always adore Coach McQueen. That only happened upon maturity. ***** Those people who tried to bury you didn’t know you were a seed. ***** It’s better to be quick to help and slow to criticize. The Howe Bulldogs found their man and made the announcement at last Monday’s monthly school board meeting. The 27th head football coach for the Howe Bulldogs is Lance Bryan who has most recently served as the defensive coordinator at Class 4A Sanger. He would love for his first ever victory as a head coach to be one that snaps a 22-game losing streak for Howe. Bryan is originally from Gainesville, Texas where he played football for the Gainesville Lions. He played college ball at Hardin Simmons and eventually became a graduate assistant coach there. He landed a job at Carthage High School in 2010 and then went to

Jasper High in 2011. Bryan was at Class 5A Hutto from 2012-2016. He took the defensive coordinator job at Class 6A Baytown Sterling near Houston in 2017 before coming to S&S in 2018 before moving to Sanger for the past three seasons. His goal is to be on campus full-time by February. Howe, who is winless in the past two seasons, is looking for a jumpstart and Bryan was a part of a similar situation at Jasper who went from 2-8 to a district championship. “I’m not making those kinds of promises, but you can flip a program

grant from the American Rescue Plan Act in the amount of $829,091.78. City Administrator Jeff Stanley told the city council at Tuesday’s meeting that city received the first portion of the grant a few months ago in the amount of $414,545.89 which is in the city account currently. In April of this year, the city will receive another payment in the same amount. Stanley told the council that the money is being allocated to reduce the amount of inflow and infiltration (I&I) into the sewer system. With general rain-

by the City of Sherman resulting in hefty payments when during heavy rainfall months. But the infiltration also takes up much needed sewer capacity which has stalled out future residential developments.

“Right now, we have (sewer) capacity for about 350 (additional) houses,” said Stanley. “We have several developments that we’re talking with that all want a piece of that 350. If we can get this I&I down low enough, we can
