According to a “meme” shared on social media last week, there are libraries in Los Angeles that let kids read to pay off their late fees. Each hour a child spends reading at county-run libraries, $5 is deducted from their account. Library staff say at least 100 kids each week read away their debt, and 3,500 suspended accounts were cleared during the first six months of the program.

Howe Chamber elects new board, plans events for 2021 The Howe Area Chamber of Commerce met Wednesday night to select a new slate of board members and to set the upcoming event schedule for the year.

Howe Lady Bulldogs Head Coach Derek Lands recorded win 450 at Bonham. Derek Lands began his career as the head coach of the Bonham Lady Warriors, but left a good team to come to Howe back in 2002. On Tuesday night, the longtime Lady Bulldogs head coach secured win number 450 of his

career and ironically, it came in Bonham where it all began. In his 18 seasons in Howe, the Lady Bulldogs have only missed the playoffs in three of those. Other than his initial season

Robert Cannaday was voted as vice president which carries a new two-year term. He served as president of the chamber since 2015 and helped rebuild the organization from ground up after the previous chamber disbanded in 2010. Summit Gardens off to hot start for event bookings in 2021 The Howe Development Foundation (HDF) has been busy booking events in the early part of 2021 for Summit Gardens wedding and event venue. The group has already held three events in January which included a family gathering, a business luncheon, and a birthday party. In February, a birthday party is scheduled along with the first wedding of the year to be held Feb. 24. Two weddings are booked for April, two for June, and one for
