As a 25-year-old know-itall, I once submitted an opinion column to the Texoma Enterprise that was very critical of then-Mayor Ray Bledsoe. I challenged him in many ways to take efforts to boost the local economy and overall morale of Howe, Texas. That article caused quite strife between he and I for many years as his response was a personal attack on my young career as I was first introduced to the war of politics. Years passed and the heat cooled and when I was hired 15 years later by the city. I had a chance to “put my money where my mouth was” by addressing those very needs I had mentioned in the article. That need was for a vibrant chamber of commerce and community development initiative. Often times Mr. Bledsoe would “stop by” (for hours) with me in my first couple of years to try to offer advice and lend a hand because that’s just who he was.

Ray Bledsoe Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Georgia, and his son Mike. Ray will be missed but especially missed by his Schnauzer and best friend Mikey. In lieu of flowers please donate to a favorite charity. There will not be a visitation or a public service. With the COVID-19 19 so bad there will only be a graveside service for immediate family only. At a later date, we will try to honor Ray with a memorial service. Steve Simmons will be delivering the family graveside service and will honor Ray with a public service at a later date when it becomes safe.
