50 years and still the best Approximately 85 percent of Howe students will return to classrooms on Wednesday

The Lady Bulldogs have begun volleyball action. Howe won one of four matches against Valley View last week and then on Friday swept S&S in three games. The football boys will have a scrimmage this Friday in Whitewright where three teams will participate. Whitewright and Howe will also air off against Tom Bean. The season is set to open in Callisburg the following Friday night, August 28. If you can’t get a ticket to the games, don’t fret. We’ll broadcast all games this season right here on howeenterprise.com. You can even set a reminder right now for the first game by clicking here. Due to three consecutive down seasons, Howe’s fan base is more likened to a parent base. The alumni are the market audience for a school whether it’s high school or college. 1970 Howe Bulldogs - District, Bi-District, Regional Champions

Howe Bulldogs Head Coach Norman Dickey knew he was going to have a good football team in 1970. Typically, when a team has multiple 3-year starters, they are going to be good and Howe returned 12 offensive and defensive starters in Class B from a team that won 4straight district games in 1969 before being shutout by then-district mate Allen, 28-0. In those days, you had to win district to make the playoffs and if Allen was in the district, Howe had virtually no shot at the playoffs. The Eagles of Allen had beaten Howe seven of the nine matchups since the Bulldogs restarted their football program in 1958. However, when the district realignment was announced, Howe had a reprieve and Allen was gone and replaced with Prosper. Yes, there was a time when the UIL realignment was not an automatic hit job on the black and white.

Students will start piling in to the schools in Howe beginning Monday. But it won’t be the normal occupancy for each campus as only 85 percent are expected to be in attendance in the normal classroom learning structure. Approximately 15 percent opted for online learning where parents were required to take a virtual orientation.

returned at receiver after replacing the injured Johnny Troxtell in the previous season. Steve Underwood also returned as an offensive tackle. On defense, they were heavy in return- The ISD has implemented ees as well with Mike Bledsoe and David Morrison returning at linebacker and Orr and Robert Billy at defensive back. The defensive line was heavy on experience with Gray, Tim Underwood, Thornhill, and Dukes. With a large inner rivalry between the senior and junior classes, those differences were put aside for a few months, at least between the players on the field.

many measures for the prevention of COVID-19 including requiring all employees and students to self -screen before coming to school. Any student who has had close contact with an individual who is labconfirmed with COVID-19 must remain off campus until the 14-day incubation period has passed. The most challenging school year is nigh upon us.

Before the season, Dickey knew that he would have 3 -year starter Rick Hanning at quarterback, multi-year standouts in halfback Ricky Orr, guards Lenny Gray and Butch Thornhill Norman Dickey was the Howe with Butch Schneider shift- head football coach from 1964ing to center. Jerry Dukes 1975 seasons.

The drive in front of Howe High School is now a one-way-only. Vehicles that want to have access to the front entrance must enter from Highway 5 (Denny St). The lane will flow from south to north only. To enter from Ponderosa Road, one must drive around the back of the campus over to the south portion of the campus.
