Lady Bulldogs make history The Howe Lady Bulldogs had quite the run. Watching senior starters Jenna Honore and Ally Harvey, Molly Wilson, and Cassidy Anderson “grow up” on the basketball court over the last four seasons has been a fun experience. Each of those young ladies hit the varsity floor as freshmen and it seems like yesterday. Harvey came in as a freshman with everyone asking if she would be as good as her standout sister Riley who had just graduated. Honore had no such expectations as she hit the floor running as Coach Derek Lands immediately had her guarding the district’s best offensive players that year. Molly and Cassidy soon followed and each brought their own unique talents. Wilson, a great defender and above average shooter and Anderson who unloaded the corner cannons. Senior Paetyn Ford came in this season to provide excellent bench play from her role. I’ll miss this team. I’ll miss these seniors. No one has ever had the entire front page all to themselves. Until now. EDITOR’S NOTE—This column is reserved as an opinion column and may not necessarily reflect the policy of this publication.

began in mid-November with a 43-40 win at Melissa and finishes the season as a team that went further than any other Howe girls basketball team in the 112-year history of the school.

Before the playoffs, Pottsboro was the only 3A team to score at least 50 on Howe. In the final two games, the Lady Bulldogs allowed 53 to the defending state champion Chapel Hill Lady Devils and 50 to Winnsboro.
the first came in a 43-33 win against Edgewood Tuesday night in Royse City. The girls basketball program in Howe had only reached the regional quarterfinal round twice in school’s history prior to last week. In the 2012-13 season, Howe lost to Brock, 54-34 and a year ago suffered a heartbreaking loss in the final moments of the game to Mineola, 36-35. But the hurdle was cleared on Tuesday and the Lady Bulldog raised a regional quarterfinal trophy that had never been raised before by
any girls basketball team in Howe. Excluding tennis, golf, and track, only the 2018 Lady Bulldogs’ softball team had reached the regional semifinal round of the playoffs prior to Tuesday night. Cassidy Anderson becomes the only player to be on the roster for both regional semifinal games in both basketball and softball as she was a sophomore on the team in 2018. But including the other sports, Molly Wilson went to state in golf, and Ally Harvey won regionals in the high (Continued on page 3)
