At the regular Howe City Council meeting on Tuesday, the council and new Mayor Bill French recognized outgoing Mayor Jeff Stanley and presented him a plaque for his 10-year service. The plaque read:

“This is presented in grateful appreciation of Jeffery Stanley for over 10 years for dedicated service to the citizens as the Mayor of Howe, Texas presented this 19th day of November 2019.”
Most all of the City of Howe employees were onhand for the recognition.

City Administrator Joe Shephard said that Stanley had been a staunch and dedicated supporter of all the employees of the city.
“I couldn’t ask for a better mayor to work under and I’ll miss you and I wish you well and thank you for what you’ve done for us,” said Shephard.
Stanley then thanked everyone and said it was an honor not only to serve with the council but to also have served as mayor.
“I didn’t ever expect this,” said Stanley as he began to get a little emotional. “I served for you and wherever I went, I told them we had the best council and the best employees.”
Mayor French commented in favor of Shephard and City Secretary Joy Stevens for helping him get up to speed in his first month as mayor.
“They have helped, they’ve answered questions and if they’ve laughed at me, they've at least waited until I left the room,” said French. “They’re very, very helpful in guidance and council. Maybe in 10 years, I’ll be half the mayor that Mayor Stanley was,” said French.
Howe faced a good Callisburg team to open the season and took a 54-32 loss with Fabacher leading Howe with 11 points and seven rebounds. Harmon added seven points in the loss.

Unfortunately for Howe, the Bulldogs had 29 turnovers in the game and shot 18 percent (6-for33) from 2-point range. Norton shot 2-of-3 from 3-point range, but overall Howe shot 24 percent (4-for-17) from behind the arc. Howe shot 47 percent from the free-throw line (8-for-17).
Other scorers for Howe were Norton (6), Lankford (4), Campbell (3), and Moreau (1).
After the Callisburg game, Elvington decided not to play basketball for his senior year which opened up a roster spot for either Wilson, Lopez, Haley, or Moreau.
On Friday night, Howe traveled to Nevada to take on the 4A Community Braves. The final was 68-33 Community as Howe was out-manned at each position on the court. Haley got the audition as a freshman to start with Wilson also seeing his first action on the varsity roster.

Community jumped out to a quick 16-6 lead after the first period and advanced to a 39-11 lead at the half. The Braves full-court press hindered Howe’s ability to transition offensively.
In the second half, Community abandoned the press and Howe was able to stay toe-to-toe with them for a 15-15 third period tally. But as things tightened a bit, the Braves returned to the press and snuffed out Howe in the final stanza, 14-7 for the win.
Howe again had a poor night shooting the ball from the field. The Dogs shot 17 percent (5-of29) from 2-point range and 13 percent (2-of-16) from 3-point range. Howe made most of their points from the line shooting 17for-30 (57 percent).
Leading Howe in scoring was Campbell with 11 and Haley with seven. Other scorers were Thurman (5), Fabacher (4), Norton (3), and Wilson (3).
Howe’s Elijah Campbell has officially made the roster at Monmouth College, a Division III school in the Midwest Conference in Monmouth, IL. The Fighting Scots' home opener was Nov. 15 against Eureka College.

Campbell was was the lone member of the Howe Bulldogs to be named to the 10-3A All-District First Team in the 2018-19 season. The senior captain led Howe through a tough stretch in district play averaging 12 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 2 steals per game.
