"I was so proud of their focus and drive going into finals," said band director, Angie Liss. "There are so many great bands in our area that even the smallest detail can make or break whether you advance or not. The kids really rose to the challenge. Now it's time to rise some more!"

At the area contest, the judging panel is comprised of three music judges and two marching judges. Two of the music judges switch with the two marching judges for finals and one of the music judges remains on music. The judge that adjudicated music in both prelims and finals had Howe ranked fifth in prelims but second in finals.

Liss commented that she felt this was very indicative of the progress the students made from prelims to finals. "Anytime a judge sees you perform more than once, it sometimes feels difficult to change their first impression. I am so proud of the fact that we made the jump in rank with that judge. It tells me the improvement was evident."

Other area bands advancing to the state contest are Holliday, Van Alstyne, and Whitesboro. The 3A state marching contest will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio on November 6.

The K-2nd Bulldogs went down fighting against the Collinsville Pirates in the Super Bowl by a score of 33-6. The Bulldogs completed their season losing only two games, both being against the Super Bowl Champs. The Dogs also were the only team all year to score against the Pirates and did so on a long run by quarterback Eli Espitia.

Head Coach Larry Windon said it was a great season by the K-2nd Dogs who finished with the runner up trophy this year.

“The Coaches would like to thank the parents for their dedication all season and making sure these boys had a great experience this year,” said Windon.
