Howe ISD discuss dress code, school hours for 2019-2020
The Howe ISD Board of Trustees had quite the discussion on what qualifications should receive the right to be an "Honor Graduate." In the old days, it was the top 10 percent of the class. The discussion was whether the criteria should be a grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 and above (on a 5.0 scale) or whether it should be the top 25 percent of the class plus the students with a 3.75. In the end, it came down to just a GPA of 3.75 being the standard. Not sure if this is retro-fitted to prior classes because this could make a big difference with, say, the Class of 1992. The school district tells us that the 532 Howe phone numbers will be changing to 745 on all of their phone numbers. Get ready for that headache. Last week we shared a story about the chamber thinking about buying a bug. The joke will be one of those told for 20 years. Our favorite chamber president lost sleep over it. Good stuff. The old men at the coffee shop are discussing sponsoring the Howe Bulldogs football broadcast this year. "Fourth down is brought to you by the old men at the coffee shop." Can't you hear it? 'Justin, it'll be interesting to see what the old men at the coffee shop say about that kicking decision tomorrow.' ADVERTISE YOUR BUSINESS

Pioneer Valley residents want answers to drainage issues
Recently named School Board President Clint Catching listens to updates on the student handbook. Every year the same rumor sweeps through Howe. It's the rumor that this will be the year that high school students are able to wear shorts to school. Well, the rumor once again was dispelled at the monthly school board meeting last week when the board discussed the updates to the student handbook and made sure the dress code was clear and stipulated no shorts. One clarification
had to be added so that males could not wear capri pants. Not that it was an issue at Howe prior, but it was an issue that the new high school principal had at his previous school. Howe Middle School Principal Clay Wilson began speaking about changes to the handbook from that campus which one was the removal of all verbiage page 2
Home builder Sergio Lopez discusses drainage issues in the Pioneer Valley edition. Citizens in the Pioneer Valley subdivision near Timbercreek Drive made a visit to the city council meeting last Tuesday night to discuss drainage problems that some of the homes have been having since the construction of new homes. Homebuilder Sergio Lopez was also in attendance to give his
rebuttal to some of the issues that, according to him, have been going on prior to his construction. Mayor Jeff Stanley initially stated that the property owners would be able to address the council first. On hand for the city were City Attorney James page 6
Future Lady Bulldogs learn volleyball skills Two sets of volleyball camps took place last week. It was a morning session for the youth players and an afternoon camp for middle school through varsity. The day might have been very long for Howe Volleyball Head Coach Meghan Litchfield but she says it was well worth seeing all of the improvement from the younger players. "With their youth league experience, the girls that came back from last year had already improved tremendously," said Litchfield. Some varsity seniors
helped out in the coaching at the youth camp and Litchfield said they loved being there with the younger campers. "Seeing the excitement that the little girls have towards volleyball was the best part of the camp for me personally," said Litchfield. She's excited about the fourth and sixth-grade classes in particular which showed great improvement from a year ago. The middle and high school camp went well and Litchfield is excited about a lot of returning seniors for the upcoming season.
