New equipment and clean facility is focus for Core Fit Gym in Howe

The Howe Area Chamber of Commerce has a young president named Robert Cannaday who is known as someone who has a tight grip on the purse strings of the non-profit organization. However, when Cannaday missed last month's board meeting due to becoming a new father, his fellow board members discussed the purchase of a Volkswagen Bug for marketing purposes from a friend of fellow Chamber Treasurer Sarah Whitt. Without Cannaday in the room, the purse strings found themselves dangling on the floor of the Victory Center at 101 E. Haning St.

New equipment lines the cardio area in the gym on Haning Street. Number 1 Fitness was a staple in Howe, but the shocking death of owner Heath Horton led to an ownership change of the gym. The new owner, Casey Mccaslin has changed the name to Core Fit Gym and has lots of help from his sons Dalton, Shane, and Colton.

Fellow board members Whitt, Monte Walker, Susan Garcia, Sergio Garcia, and "Shane has set up my Tom Defrange told Cannaday directly after the meeting that they had made a motion to approve the purchase of the vehicle. Cannaday, of course, didn't buy their word and scoffed it off.

As weeks went by, Walker sent the photo (on page 8) last week to all of the board members including Cannaday that they need to prepare for the title change as the bug was to be picked up on Wednesday and he asked Whitt, the treasurer, to cut a check to the owner of the bug.

One of the greatest assets of Howe is the available property on US Highway 75 to enhance the community profile. Investors also covet such property and if the price is right, they'll purchase it and do what they want with it. The issue with this property is getting water to the location. The owners will have to tap from Hall Cemetery Road for City of Howe water. HoweEnterprise.com Readership Jan. 1 - July 13, 2019

"A lot of people drive through our city on a daily basis on (Highway) 75 and never stop to see what's behind the curtain, so to speak," said Monte

Walker, director of economic development for the City of Howe. "There's so much here behind the exits that we can show off." A similar video was produced in 2015 that highlighted the "new beginning" of Howe as the chamber was reestablished and economic development program were instituted during that time. "Since the initial video produced, we've had some big upgrades in our city," Walker said referring to the renovations to the former First Christian page 4
