City trying to leverage better trash service

The Howe Area Chamber of Commerce has announced a ribbon-cutting on June 28 at 10 am at Pradera Mobile Home Park. Everyone is welcome to attend. There will be Chick-fil-A and Starbucks on-hand. Also, the Van Alstyne Chamber will be there with us for a combo ribbon-cutting. The manager of the mobile home park is Felix Tormos and if you know anything about sports in the area, his son Samuel is an outstanding athlete for the V.A. Panthers and he's headed to the University of Houston to play baseball. Now you have a conversation starter when you go. A group of entering high school freshmen are in New York City learning about all things Manhattan. They are there once again with Bruce Elvington who is leading the trip. We'll try to get a wrap up next week. President Trump's strategic chaos has forced other nations to take him seriously when he makes a promise to Americans. When it comes to the border crisis if Congress showed half the resolve the President displays to secure the border, imagine what could be could accomplished. Instead, they want to do absolutely nothing and yet vote to give themselves a raise. No thanks.

Summer activities at the library are fully underway

Citizens of Howe may have noticed a delay in trash pickups recently. Normally, trash service runs each Tuesday throughout the city and recently, the containers have not been emptied until Wednesday some weeks. City of Howe City Administrator Joe Shephard said Wednesday that they are playing the only card they have - withholding funds until the situation gets fixed. "We only have one way to fix the problem, and that's to not pay them until they start doing what they say they're going to do," said Shephard. The City of Howe's original contract was with Progressive Waste Solutions, but a buyout of
