HHS student headed to Texas Boys State
Very rarely do we publish from a location other than Howe. But this one is one of those as our travels have taken us to Norman, Oklahoma as one of our boys participated in Lincoln Riley's Football Camp. It was not a "drop your kid off" football camp as this was intense for entering 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. Some of the best information Riley gave the kids were during the final few moments of camp when he said if you want to play at Oklahoma or a school like Oklahoma, they seek out grades first, then attitude, then football skills. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take a couple of days off. Hopefully the Illinois River level will allow me to float a few miles early in the week. Congratulations are in order for the Howe Bulldogs 12U baseball team coached by Kent Lowder. They came away over the weekend with the end-of-season tournament championship rings. They were down 6-1 headed into the final stanza and came away with an 8-6 win. Coach Lowder also gave a riveting speech to the kids after the game in regards to not quitting and how that carries over from 12U baseball games to life.
