Today starts early voting and you can do so at the Howe Community Center at 700 W. Haning St. You will see some school board candidate ads in this week's edition. While we, as a news publication are very happy to have paid advertisers (especially with a 16-yearold driver in the house now), we make no endorsements for any candidate. We have not done so since our ownership acquisition in 2014 and have no intention of doing so in the future. Laws are funny on political ads. In print newspapers, TV, radio, and billboards, there has to be: "advertisement paid by _" notification. But in digital media, it is not the case. We had to look this up. Last week's edition had a plethora of information from each candidate. Keep in mind, if you don't vote, you can't gripe. Or I guess you can, but you shouldn't.

We only thought the previous week was Masters' week. However, Bethany Masters continued her dominating track efforts for her senior season. Masters took home the area championship in both the long jump and the triple jump. She also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles and was the third leg in the 4x100-meter relay that finished second. She will advance to the regional track meet in all four
categories which is something nearly unheard of. Her efforts helped the Lady Bulldogs win the area track meet. The 2019 track team has an argument as being the most successful track program in the school's history. Ten events will be represented by Howe with five varsity boys and seven varsity girls who will compete at the regional meet in page 4
The Howe Police Department hosted a Taser 2-year certification class last week which will allow the students to become instructors. David Blasingame, the instructor for the week, who also serves as police lieutenant for the City of Irving said that the instruction if facilitated by Axon (formerly Taser). It's a 2-day class with online instruction first, followed by 16 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction.
The class in Howe filled up quickly and drew officers from as far away as the San Antonio area. According to Blasingame, each student in the class will then be certified to instruct other officers on their staff to become proficient in the line of Tasers. Non-lethal technology has been around for many decades going back to the Lyndon Baines Johnson days. The Taser was page 2
Churches in Howe celebrate Easter Sunday
Whoever has the voodoo doll, please take the pin out now. We learned first-hand why insurance is so expensive for 16-year-olds. Big thanks to Rick Owens and his construction company who repaired and painted the arbor at Summit Gardens on Saturday. An anonymous donor in town paid for the work to be done. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Anonymous! I hope everyone is making plans to be at Founders Day May 4. It will be large. The chamber is in overflow on vendors and they'll be scattered all over the place. A large attendance was seen at The First Baptist Church of Howe. Longtime Pastor Roger Tidwell's message was one that focused on the love of God.
