Betty appealed to a juvenile audience as well as adults. When the flapper/jazz era that Betty represented was replaced by the big bands of the swing era, Betty’s forays into that style were not successful. The last Betty Boop cartoons were released in 1939 with a few attempts to bring Betty into the swing era.

"With a united effort we can make the place in which we live clean, wholesome, attractive. We can make the crowded city dweller homesick to come back to us and real living. We can bring new life, new business, new beauty, to the little towns." - Mame Roberts

The rights to the "Betty Boop" character were not sold with the cartoons by Paramount, and the a trademark on the name (but not legitimately the likeness) of Betty Boop is owned by Fleischer Studios, with the merchandising rights to that name licensed to King Features Syndicate. These merchandising

rights are the most valuable of the Betty Boop properties. In 2010, Betty Boop became the official fantasy cheerleader for the United Football League. She was also featured in merchandise targeted towards the league's female demographic. Everything Boop was designed and created: teapots, statues, bookmarks, dolls, handkerchiefs, towels, salt and pepper shakers, plates, playing cards, fake fingernails, watches, socks, ashtrays, keychains, bumper stickers, and dozens of figurines set under glass cloches. They even merchandised three-D fold-out birthday greeting cards that read, “Happy Boop-oop-a-doop Birthday.” I guess King Features Syndicate figured if it could be manufactured, Betty Boop could be featured on it. My interest in things Boop was heightened by a collection I am selling for an estate in Carrollton for a man whose mother collected Betty Boop. We opened three boxes of items, including lots of the statuettes of her under glass. Watch the Howe Mercantile Facebook site for more info on this sale. It should be, well, boop-oop-a-doop, The final auction for the Summit Gardens event venue will be held on May 4th, FOUNDERS DAY.
