Lady Bulldogs

The Howe Lady Bulldogs clinched the district championship on Friday night in Leonard with a comeback 56-50 win where Leonard led for much of the second half It was a 3pointer by Cassidy Anderson that gave Howe the lead, 50-47 with 2:25 remaining in the game Calley Vick's clutch free throws with 22 seconds remaining made up for a costly foul five seconds earlier But with again Howe in foul trouble and Ally Harvey fouled out in the fourth, it was Molly Wilson who continues to make her defensive presence known

Over the last three games, Howe has been in critical foul trouble and the oft-overlooked Wilson's role on the team has risen to the top during the fourth quarters of those games without the offensive namesakes on the court In the last two weeks, Harvey, Vick, and Jenna Honore have fouled out leaving Wilson to come out of the shadows and expose her steadfast defensive grit to the common fan. Without Wilson's defensive performance in the fourth period on Friday, Howe would still be talking about trying to wrap up the district championship this week.

"She hasn't got the credit she deserves all year long except for

Continued from page 1 the stuff I tell her," said Howe Head Coach Derek Lands "Stuff she does doesn't show up in the newspaper She's usually having to guard a bigger-stronger girl or a smallerfaster one because she's in that in between area She just knows how to play the game and I don't know what stat that falls under but it doesn't come up on my stat sheet I can rely on her to do things right "

With hustle and excellent positioning, Wilson cut off several would-be layups in the fourth period on fast-breaks that normally would have resulted in easy buckets But not only that, just before Anderson rang in the 3-point play of the game, it was Wilson who sank two free throws with 2:44 remaining to tie the game at 47

On the night, Harvey led Howe with 18 points with Vick tallying 11 Jenna Honore, who did not miss time with last week's knee injury, racked up nine along with Anderson's seven. Wilson's two key free throws were the only other points

Howe will host Bonham on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast live on howeenterprise com
