Two local churches held Vacation Bible School
June 11 of each year is the day to celebrate National Corn on the Cob Day. Fresh corn on the cob is a summertime treat that people from all corners of the United States look forward to as we start the picnic season. Corn on the cob is also known in different regions as pole corn, cornstick, sweet pole, butter-pop or long maize. It is a sweet corn that is picked when the kernels are still tender when it’s in its milk stage. Boiling, steaming, roasting or grilling are the most common ways of preparing corn on the cob. If it is grilled or oven roasted, the corn is usually left in its husk during the cooking process. Proper dinner etiquette for eating corn says it is appropriate to hold the cob at each end with your fingers. This is not the preferred method of my wife. But is to us boys in the house. It was announced at the weekly Hurricane Creek Rotary Club meeting last Thursday that the Howe Chamber of Commerce was responsible for the upcoming events to the area such as the band Fuel last week and Mark Chestnut tomorrow night. The Howe Chamber representative told the group that the local organization let Sherman pay for it and also host it on their municipal grounds. Not sure if anyone bought it or not. Sure was a good Fuel show. HoweEnterprise.com Readership Jan. 1 - June 9, 2018 Sessions: 44,368 Users: 21,126 Pageviews: 242,927

Youngsters enjoy the Howe church of Christ VBS. Over 220 kids attended Vacation Bible School in Howe this week. The First Baptist Church of Howe and the Howe church of Christ each held their annual summer event that included music, games, arts and crafts, and a lot of learning about Jesus. "Today we're talking about the gospel and the good news and in today's world there's so much bad news that any good news that we can give to kids is something we need to keep doing," said Jonathan Coleman who serves as music minister for FBC Howe.

Longtime Howe church of Christ Pastor Toby Soechting said that things are mostly the same in Vacation Bible School from 20 years ago when he began his ministry. "It used to be that it reached out a lot more to families than in the communities and now it seems it's people in the church and their direct friends," said Soechting. "It's a little harder for us to get people from the community because they have a lot more things vying for their attention."
