Howe's That Oh sweet victory light how you make me so happy. The light was turned on Friday night by Andrew Griffin from the field of Bulldog Stadium by way of a phone app. It is a far cry from the old breaker box format back in the old days. But nonetheless, the light stands as a symbol of something good for our town. Although the 40-year-old tradition only stands for the varsity football team and their wins, the light also has other victories behind the florescent lights this week. Howe ISD's bond passed which ensures victory for the students and future students of Howe. The band's ninth place finish at the state marching competition is also a reason to celebrate. But in the end, it glows for what it was meant to glow for and that is a Friday night football win for the Howe Bulldogs. After an 0-9 start, the meaning of the light for the senior players was evident from post-game comments by Dylan Moreau and others as they said they couldn't wait to drive through town and see the reward for their efforts. James "Blackie" Wade was only the Howe head football coach here for a short time and had a non-remarkable winning record of 16-21-3, but one of the best things he did while in Howe from 1976-1979 was install a string of light bulbs together to form a V on the back of the press box at Bulldog Stadium.
