Howe fans will soon not have to watch their favorite sons compete against the State of Texas' elite of elite teams This coming Friday night is homecoming and the Dogs will face the 3-0 Quinlan Panthers

Howe made some offensive changes prior to Friday night's game with Muenster They quickly aborted the traditional wing-T offense and moved to a one-back with two wide receivers and two slots They weren't able to display that new look before trailing, 8-0 due to Muenster's first possession on Friday night The Hornets well-oiled offensive machine went 70 yards on 10 plays to open the game with fullback Logan Pagel carrying the ball over for the game's first points A 2- point conversion made the score 8-0 with 8:40 left in the first quarter.

Howe's first possession ended in a 24-yard punt by Hunter Cheatham Muenster wasted no time on their next possession by scoring in 20 seconds On the first play, running back Clay Stevens raced 44-yards for a presumed touchdown, however, when he dove into the endzone, his knee hit at the three A personal foul for diving in the endzone moved the ball back to the 18 but it only took one more play for Hornet quarterback Parker McGrew to hit receiver Stetson McGrew for an 18-yard scoring strike Muenster led, 15-0 with 6:22 left in the first

Howe starting on the next possession when freshman quarterback Cirby Coheley fumbled on the very first play of the drive Muenster took the ball at the Howe 42 yard line and drove to the one and were turned away by a great play by Cameron Blesi to give Howe the ball at their own one yard line But three plays later, a bad exchange between the quarterback and center caused the ball to be recovered in the endzone by Muenster for a touchdown and upping their score to 22-0 with 3:27 left in the first

Three punts ensued on the next three possession in the game to finish out the first quarter But on the first play of the second quarter, Parker McGrew sprinted around the right edge for an 80-yard scamper to give the Hornets a 29-0 lead with 10:55 left bore half

The 'Dogs began to get in sync offensively and drove 72 yards on 11 plays Coheley hit newlyconverted guard to slot back Mikey Hymel for the 3-yard scoring reception Calley Vick's extra point was blocked and Howe cut the Muenster lead to 29-6 with 5:01 in the second

Muenster bounced back with a 53yard drive on six plays capped off by a Stevens 2-yard touchdown Muenster's lead was 36-6 at the 3:16 mark in the second

Howe punted on their next possession which gave the Hornets a chance to work on their clock management Taking the ball with only 50 8 seconds before half at the 50 yard line, they ran five plays before scoring on a 12-yard catch and run with Parker McGrew to Stetson McGrew The score left only 3 2 remaining and a 43-6 halftime lead for Muenster

Howe opened the second half with a 6-play drive, but Coheley's intended pass to Ty Harvey was intercepted by Parker McGrew which would eventually set up a 25-yard field goal for Trey McTaggart

The next two possessions would end in a punt before Howe's Andrew Griffin darted for an 89yard sprint to pay dirt with 4:11 left in the fourth quarter It brought the score to it's final tally of 46-12

Griffin led the Bulldogs with 114 yards on 15 carries Dylan Moreau had two carries for three yards Cirby Coheley completed six of 13 passes for 64 yards with a touchdown and an interception

Howe is 0-3 for the first time since 2005 They'll take on Quinlan on Friday night for homecoming Howe won at Quinlan a year ago, 44-13 and are 4-1 versus the Panthers all-time dating back to Nov 11, 1968 in which Howe won that initial matchup, 22-6 at Bulldog Stadium.

As part of its continuing commitment to safety, the Texas Department of Transportation reminds caregivers and parents of all ages to check, double-check and triple-check their child passenger safety seats National Child Passenger Safety Week, Sept 1724, is an ideal time to do so

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, three out of four child car seats are not properly installed Common child safety seat errors include: installing the seat too loosely; putting the harness straps through the wrong slots; leaving harness straps too loose; positioning the chest clip incorrectly; and using the wrong seat belt path

“We can help you check the fitment and safety of your child passenger seat at five locations in the nine-county TxDOT Paris District,” said Monica Yates,

TxDOT traffic funding specialist based in Paris “It helps to know your child's weight and height, so have that information with you Also remember that used car seats, ones you get at a garage sale or from family members, may not be safe Child safety seats have an expiration date and shouldn’t be used after that date They should also be replaced if and when the vehicle is involved in a crash ”

State law requires that children less than 8 years old and shorter than 4’9” travel in passenger vehicles in approved child safety seats Those older than 8 and taller than 4’9” can travel using adult safety belts Drivers should refer to their specific car seat manufacturer's manual for instructions on how to install a safety seat The vehicle owner's manual also includes information on the proper placement of car seats and proper use of the seat belt or LATCH system

Diligence requires less talk and more action

Success is not easily understood or there would be more of it! Learning and demonstrating certain principals can make the difference between watching others succeed and enjoying the blessings of success in our own life One of these fundamental principles is that your God-given talent will make room for you!

Proverbs 18:16 is a powerful statement that is worth considering; “A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men ” What does this mean? If we will pursue and practice whatever we are good at to the point of becoming our best, others will recognize our talent and will be more than willing to promote us and declare to the world about what we can do

Proverbs 22:29 say’s, “Do you know a person diligent in their business affairs? They shall be presented before kings and shall not stand before mean tyrants ” Allow me to include that our talents are truly opportunities but as we are reminded of the 10,000hour rule, they must be developed Very similar to being an athlete, it will require vision, hard work, and determination to become outstanding How does a marathon runner increase their stamina and endurance? Certainly not by laying on the couch and eating Cheetos! They run every day to build strength and fortitude

Alexander Graham Bell believed that sound could be converted into electrical impulses transmitted by wire, and today, no one remembers the long list of those who thought this idea of communicating was crazy He had a relentless passion which kept his vision alive and his legacy is still greatly respected all over the world If you are content with doing just enough to get by, you will always find yourself helping someone else achieve their goals However, when you decide to focus on your mission and put your entire heart into it, you can then begin to trust God, live by faith, and fulfill your mission There are huge differences between leaders and followers and it begins with knowing who God is, who you are and how serious you are within this personal relationship When anyone begins to invest their life into what Jesus has died for them to be, they will be planted firmly on the path to success What is the catch? We must become pliable and willing to surrender our will in order for the seed of God’s Word to be planted deep within our soul. This field of dreams must be watered daily with prayer and the awareness of His presence in order to know our purpose and develop our spiritual wisdom.

Have you ever felt like the world was passing you by and doesn’t even know you exist? Do you feel rejected and discouraged because you are not sure what direction to go in or how your dreams are going to come true? Each of us are born with a custom designed blueprint and it only makes sense that our spiritual gifts and abilities are intended to be an important part of this highly detailed plan The question is how many people will understand how all of this is going to come together? We have heard that nothing takes the place of perseverance and hard work but is it how devoted we are helping someone else or is it how serious we are to embrace and focus on what God has called us to do? Just because we have some success does not always mean we are following our own divine destiny

Let’s consider a few synonyms for the word diligent; “Industrious, hard-working, responsible, conscientious, meticulous, painstaking, thorough, aware, persevering, persistent, tenacious, zealous, dedicated, determined, committed, tireless, and undeterred ” Wow, does this describe you? These are words we need to tape to our bathroom mirror! How powerful and lifechanging to incorporate these positive inspirations into our daily prayers and for them to eventually become imbedded into our conscience An elderly chaplain told me one time that he loved his vocation so much that it never seemed like work If you will submit and ask God to lead you, you will not have to worry about an audience, respect, recognition, finances, or God’s favor When you discover your spiritual blueprint, and become willing to do whatever it takes to see it evolve, you will accomplish your calling

based on Washington Irving’s Rip Van Winkle, was resurrected Old Rip was sent on a national promotional tour and even visited President Calvin Coolidge in Washington, D C When Old Rip came home from his White House visit, he caught pneumonia and died His body was sent to a taxidermist and his remains were placed in a casket in the rotunda of the new Eastland County Courthouse where they are still on display investment Most of the examples of these kitschy collectibles I have purchased in Texas cost between two and five dollars However, if Old Rip was taken from the state as a souvenir to California or New York, he commands twenty to twenty-five dollars Sadly though, just as the horny toad is becoming less easy to find in nature, Old Rip has become less easy to find for sale at flea markets, too staffing that extra day Perhaps we will be able to open more days during the holidays

Continuing our discussion about Texas pottery, of note is perhaps the most famous House of Webster product, the ceramic replica of the legendary horned toad, “Old Rip ” In case you haven’t heard, the legend goes that when the Eastland County Courthouse was dedicated in 1897, a Texas horned toad was placed in the cornerstone of the building When the courthouse was razed in 1928, thirty-one years later, the cornerstone was reopened Eastland county judge lifted the toad out of the box by his foot, and the presumed deceased horned toad twitched and came to life “Old Rip,” whose name was

House of Webster Ceramics began making these horned toads as giveaways for school children and tourists who visited their manufacturing plant I have received several of these ceramic horned toads as gifts and found more at flea markets They come in different colors and shades, but all have the name “OLD RIP” emblazoned on their chest To make these toads more valuable and collectible, the empty cavity under Rip’s body should have a slip of paper with the legend imprinted

My examples are resting in peace on my laundry room window seal, probably looking longingly out the window for some nice juicy harvester ants

Leonidas Jaworski was born in Waco in 1905 His parents were immigrants, and his father was a minister Known to his friends as “Leon,” he proved a bright and hard-working student, often studying by candlelight He graduated from Waco High School, where he excelled at debate, and enrolled at Baylor University

In 1925, he completed his law degree and became the youngest lawyer in state history, not quite 20 years old He later received a masters degree at George Washington University Law School

He moved to Houston in 1930 His skills soon attracted the attention of some of the most powerful lawyers in the city In 1931, Jaworski joined the growing firm of Rufus Fulbright, and within a few years, he became a partner in the firm, which became the largest and most influential firm in Houston

During World War II, Jaworski served as a lawyer for the U. S. Army At the end of the war, the Allies began putting Nazi officials on trial for crimes against humanity, Jaworski directed the prosecutions of war criminals. He ensured that those who slaughtered so many civilians and soldiers would face justice
