How many parents have waited for the day when their child’s eyes would suddenly be opened and like the prodigal they will finally see the truth and change their ways?

Mothers and fathers dearly love their kids, but unfortunately, things do not always go as planned and many difficult children have caused their parents much worry, sadness, and disappointment It is easy to blame the parents, but I do not believe that all liability can be laid at their doorstep Parents have the perfect opportunity to present constructive thinking, discipline and a sense of right and wrong into their children’s mind and spirit within the formative years, however this does not always guarantee the child will continue in the direction they were pointed We guide and provide for our children, but they have a mind of their own

Children are like sponges when it comes to learning and are very curious about what they observe, which gives every parent the duel opportunity to not only be the instructors but also the responsibility to demonstrate what they believe in front of them. We must also realize that children are vulnerable to other outside influences and have the ability to embrace whatever they want So, how important is it to protect and guard the mind and spirit of a young child? Many experts agree that the first six years in a child’s life is his or her most important years of mental, emotional and spiritual development It is believed that the foundation that is laid within the individual’s conscience during this crucial period of time becomes the

It is no secret that young couples are inexperienced when they begin raising children of their own, but a key to success can be connected back to their own childhood The generational cycle of curses and blessings are very real and it is generally accepted that knowledge is transferred from generation to generation whether it be positive or negative and is directly associated with behavior It is wonderful when parents realize their own lack of understanding and make it a priority to improve the cycle for the sake of their children Instead of a “rolling the dice” attitude, there are many wonderful educational resources that are Biblically based with constructive spiritual principals

Does the concept of good parents producing good children always work? Through the years, I have talked with many broken-hearted parents that have wondered where they went wrong They are good people who lived a decent moral life, took their kids to church, corrected them and tried to teach them the best they could In these times of trying to console, the scripture found in Proverbs 22:6, usually finds its way to the surface “Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old, they will not depart from it ” This passage reminds us that if good seed has been planted within the heart of the child, God’s living Word will eventually germinate and become manifested later in life I’m sure many bewildered parents have been waiting a long time to see this miracle, and we could speculate forever, but I have come to the conclusion that when a person becomes an adult they simply choose what type of life they want to live.

For moms and dads that have reflected on the past and where they have made mistakes, we can all ask God to forgive us - and He will It is important that we stop blaming ourselves for the choices our child is making The Lord is aware of the situation and is listening to our prayers He loves us and our children and is filled with understanding and compassion So, let us continue having faith and hope in His promises that never fail and remember, it is never too late to talk with our children and sincerely share our heart with them There is nothing impossible with God and He can make a way where there seems to be no way

My name is Rebecca Fife and I am a third grade ELAR teacher at Howe Elementary I graduated from Texas A&M-Commerce in May 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies EC-6 This is my first year teaching at Howe Elementary, and I am truly enjoying the experience

Several years ago, I encountered an interesting category of dolls at an estate sale of a veteran doll collector I had never seen this type of doll before and it took considerable research to find anything written about them in any doll books My friend, Dawn Herlocker (200 Years of Dolls, volumes I and II, Antique Trader Books), was the first to document these dolls

These caricature figures, called Klumpes, were made of felt over wire with painted mask faces They were produced in Barcelona, Spain, between 1950 and the mid1970s The figures represent professionals, hobbyists, Spanish dancers, historical characters, and contemporary males and females performing a wide variety of tasks

Of the more than 200 or more different figures, the most common are Spanish dancers, bullfighters, and doctors Effanbee Doll

The dolls average 10-12 inches in height and are elaborately dressed with highly detailed clothing and accessories Prices range from $25-$95 for average unadorned figures to $225 for elaborate figures, mint-in-box with accessories

City Council suspends Oncor rate increase, sets up negotiation

"We go through this all the time " said Shephard "Oncor knows they're not going to get this much, our attorneys know that they're going to get more than what they should, so it's a negotiation "

The mega power company Oncor has requested a rate increase But before doing so, they must go to the Public Utility Commission (PUC) for approval

"It seems like this is happening more often For awhile it was once per year, and then every six months and now it seems like it's every three months " said City

Had the council approved it, the rate increase would have taken affect regardless However, by suspending the increase it allows for the negotiations to take place

The Howe City Council voted to suspend the rate increase 4 to 1 with Debbie Lowery the only dissenting vote

I grew up in Indiana and later moved to the Southeast I eventually made my way west to Leonard, TX where I have lived for the past 11 years with my husband and six kids We raise a few head of cattle and enjoy living the country life In my spare time I love to travel, sew, work in my yard, and spend time with Annie, my grandbaby

An obstacle can be an opportunity for an enterprising spirit This was the case for Texas inventor Bette Nesmith Graham What had been an annoyance for typists led to the struggling single mother creating a new tool for offices and a multimillion dollar business A single inspiration led Graham to invent the typing correction fluid she came to call Liquid Paper

Born Bette Clair McMurray in Dallas in March 1924, she grew up in San Antonio She was a difficult student in school as her stubborn personality led her to clash often with her teachers As a result, she dropped out at age 17 and later completed night school. She married Warren Nesmith in 1942, and the couple had a son, Michael, later that year

Her husband left to serve in World War II in 1942 After his return, the marriage collapsed; and the couple divorced in 1946 Newly divorced and having a young son to care for, she found a job as a secretary Unfortunately, she did not know how to type very well, which was a vital office skill

After her father’s death, Nesmith moved back to Dallas with her mother and sister. She accepted a secretarial position at Texas Bank and Trust in the early 1950s and eventually worked her way to the position of executive secretary However, she still made mistakes when typing

Typewriter erasers were available, but their effectiveness were limited to the kind of typewriter ribbon used and often did not erase completely In professions where precision were essential to avoiding any type of legal problem, this meant absolute perfection with any typed document As such, even the slightest mistake meant that the typist had to begin again
