2015 was the deadliest year in the last 50 yers for all vehicles including cars, trucks, and motorcycles It was the deadliest year for motorcycles in eight years

"We aren't proud of any fatality rates, but in Texas we were only a 1 percent increase, whereas the national average was an 8 percent increase for motorcycle fatalities " said the rider "I don't think it's because any legislative was passed or any laws that were put in place I think it's because of communities like Howe that are proactive and not only dedicate May for Motorcycle Safety Month, but dedicate the whole year for motorcycle safety"

Mayor Stanley and City Administrator Joe Shephard are avid motorcycle enthusiasts and both spoke of the importance of motorcycle safety and each commented about the death of a young rider recently in which they will be attending a funeral of on Saturday

"We have buried too many brothers over the last few years " said Mayor Stanley "It's always hard Especially as young as this one "

Howe Middle School Art Teacher

Diane Richardson takes the time to upload each piece of artwork that her students create to a website named Artsonia which is an international art gallery for students

"Every once in a while we get a notification that one of our students has been nominated for the coveted title of "Artist of the Week " Richardson told the school board and audience last Monday night "When you think about it being an international gallery and to be chosen from Howe, Texas to be a nominee is quite an honor"

Continued from page 1 was nominated and received 1,193 online votes from the community and school district which gave him the honor of "Artist of the Week" in his grade division Along with the honor, Wilson also won $50 to be used for the purchase of art supplies

His art piece was made with a linoleum stamp that he cut out and made a multi-print with multicolor

"It was the process as well as the color that stood out " said Richardson

Richardson also received a $100 check to use in the classroom for art supplies
