Howe's That Sure hate to see good coaches leave Howe. But it is a testament to what has happened around here since Zack Hudson was named athletic director. When Dale West was hired to insert his Slot-T offense, Howe had accumulated over 500 yards in a game seven times since 1935. With West running the offense, Howe amassed over 500 yards five times in the last three years including setting the all-time high of 618 yards in 2014 versus Tom Bean. During his time in Howe, the Dogs accumulated 400+ yards in a game an astonishing 14 times. St. Patrick is the beloved patron saint of Ireland. The Irish are famous for spinning exaggerated tales, so despite the infamous stories traditionally attributed to St Patrick, quite little is actually known about his life. We do know that St Patrick was born in Britain and that at the age of 16 was captured by Irish raiders who attacked his family's estate. He was then transported to Ireland where he was held captive for six years, living a solitary, lonely life as a shepherd. It was then that he became a devout Christian, embracing his religion for solace. From his writing, we know that a voice, which he believed to be that of God, spoke to him in a dream, urging him to leave Ireland. He did. Walking nearly 200 miles, Patrick escaped to Britain and undertook seriously religious training. After 15 years of study, Patrick was ordained as a priest and sent to Ireland. His mission was to minister to Christians and to convert the Irish, then predominantly pagans, to Christianity. Because Patrick was familiar with the Irish language and culture from his years of captivity, he chose to incorporate Irish ritual and symbols into his teachings rather than to eradicate Irish beliefs. Thus, was born the Celtic cross. Patrick superimposed the sun, a powerful Irish symbol, onto the traditional Christian cross so that the result would seem more natural to the Irish.

Howe Police Department recover skimming devices in gas pumps According to a Howe Police Department press release, officers recovered credit/debit card skimming devices from two gas pumps at the Valero gas station Monday afternoon. Sgt. Michael Hill reported that on March 6, 2017 around 4:00pm, they were alerted by the Texas Department of Agriculture that there were two gas pumps at the Valero gas station with possible skimming devices mounted inside them. Sgt. Hill stated “These are not the type of skimmers we have seen recovered in other areas. Unless you looked inside the pumps and knew what to look for, you would have no idea a skimmer was installed.” Sgt. Hill reported that the devices

recovered appear to be equipped with Bluetooth technology. Hill added, “The person(s) who installed them would likely be able to access captured credit/debit card data remotely.” Sgt. Hill said they are actively investigating a case reported in February in which a victim’s checking account was depleted after an unauthorized person obtained his debit card number. Police say they believe the victim’s information was obtained by the use of these skimmers. Sgt. Hill recommended the following tips to reduce your chances of becoming a victim: continued on page 2

The Howe Police Department recovered these skimming devices at the Valero location in Howe last week.
