A bit of Howe history told by citizen
he once served as secretary to the Howe Historical Society
Raymond Hamilton
Left with a citizen's water bill was a little of Howe's history
Robert Pinkerton shared his Howe historical knowledge as
From Pinkerton: "There was a wild west gunfight in front of the Howe Railroad Depot in the old days A man accused another of stealing a pig and the two shot at each other in the street "high noon" style. The accused man nicked the other man's ear with a bullet and was allowed to keep the pig "
"There was once a small jail beside the railroad tracks near the Howe Railroad Depot A very unpopular man was arrested and put into the jail A mob of townspeople tied (chained) the jail to a train stopped at the depot When the train started up, it pulled over the jail and the prisoner got away"
"A member of the Bonnie and Clyde gang was captured in front of the old post office by lawmen. He (Raymond Hamilton) did not fight This was the outlaw known for carrying a shotgun under his coat "

"The building that now has a historical marker (Don's Smokehouse) was the cafe in the last scene of the Karen Silkwood movie ("Silkwood") "

Left: The famous actress Cher seen here inside the building that is now Don's Smokehouse. Behind Cher in the photo is what is now Abby's Restaurant. The movie :"Silkwood" was filmed in Howe in September of 1982.
