Anyone is welcomed to attend the Howe Area Chamber of Commerce Member's Dinner that will take place this Thursday evening at Gabriela's Mexican Cocina in Downtown Howe The newly incorporated chamber will be discussing the happenings of the previous year and announcing the three members selected for induction into the Howe Hall of Honor as the 2016 class

Doing the speaking at the event, which will start at 6:30 pm, is legendary Howe ISD Coach Steve Simmons who was hired by the district back in 1987 Since then he has become one of the most beloved members of the community and respected by so many that he has taught The man is known in Howe for his deep-rooted passion, pride and unquenchable faith His leadership with the elementary students has elevated him from respected coach to legendary status as he is a nominee for the 2016 Class of the Howe Hall of Honor

Tickets for the dinner are $15 per plate The dinner is open to anyone Memberships for the Howe Area Chamber of Commerce are annually $25 per individual or $75 per business The chamber was first chartered in 1964

Howe Lions Club needs 12 members to charter; meeting Thursday

Eight community members were listed as charter members at a meeting last Thursday The Lions Club requires a total of 20 members to officially charter a club There will be another meeting this Thursday, March 24 at Gabriela's at noon for those interested in joining the Howe civic club

The Howe Lions Club of Howe, Texas is joining the world’s largest service organization, Lions Clubs International The Howe Lions will join the more than 47,000 Lions clubs making a difference in communities around the world The new club is now seeking civic-minded men and women to join them in working together to meet needs within the community

“Lions are men and women who want to help, who want to make a difference, and who want to have fun while doing it Lions give a lot to their communities, but they get back something that’s even more valuable the satisfaction that comes from changing lives,” said Charles Bethards, 2nd VDG District 2E2, Colleyville Lions Club, and Organizing Lion

In addition to providing hands-on support, Lions clubs give members an opportunity to advance worthy causes, serve with friends and become leaders in the community

A one-hour information session is scheduled on Thursday, March 24, at noon at Gabriela’s Mexican Cocina for interested community members who want to learn more about Lions and how they can make a difference in their community. Lion leaders will also be visiting local businesses and community leaders to invite them to join the new club
