Renovation shows 123-year-old original constrution
In 1893, the old First Christian Church in Howe, led by trustees Charlie Hanna, J W Bearden, and John and Frank Grigg, constructed a building at the corner of O’Connell and Denny Streets. Their construction work was exposed for the first time in 123 years on Wednesday afternoon when local construction contractor Rick Owens and his crew removed the cheese cloth and square tiles that covered the wood
The city-owned building is in planning stages to be transformed into a wedding chapel and event venue.

Owens, who donated his labor said, “It’s a blessing to give and we do have an amazing crew We look forward to seeing the transformation of this awesome building " ability to choose from 30 more varsity-aged boys is a huge advantage But with all of that said, no team maximizes the ability of their type of athlete better than Howe Head Coach and Athletic Director Zack Hudson conforms his approach to fit the type of athlete that comes through the system
After a year of identifying Howe kids, he hired Dale West to run a slot-T offense that has set multiple offensive records in the past two nued from Page #1 years for points, yards, time of possession, first downs, muddy uniforms you name it As long as Hudson and West are paired together in Howe, the Bulldogs will always be playoff contenders - in any district in Class 3A

"With the talents that our kids have, I believe we are doing exactly what our kids can do and be good at." said Hudson. "Do we have room for improvements? Yes. People have to understand that we put people in a bind when we show up because people can't duplicate what we do You can duplicate a spread offense - that's not hard to do But when you line up 11 players to run our offense, it doesn't look like that I've seen it "
Hudson looks to the success of Liberty Hill and East Bernard who also run the slot-T and have had tremendous success and look a lot like Howe
As far as the new district realignment, Hudson thinks that Howe ended up with the best possible scenario being in a sixteam district that takes four teams to the playoffs.
"Pottsboro has lost a lot of their goto guys " said Hudson "I'm not saying the're going to be down or anything, but I don't think they're going to be the number two team in the state of Texas for 12 weeks "
He also stated that Callisburg graduated 19 starters and Whitesboro graduated their best running back
"I feel good about it We keep our kids on schedule so I don't think they think twice about it " said Hudson "It's going to be a tougher schedule Pre-district is going to be a tougher schedule and it needs to be We can't be playing people continued on Page #6
