Whitmire releases road plan of 46 miles for Precinct 1

Commissioner Jeff Whitmire has released the 2016 road plan and it contains an ambitious 46 miles of county roads to be attended to. In addition to the plan, Whitmire says that they will be doing some spot repairs to areas that have been damaged by trash trucks.

"We are fortunate to have almost record low prices for road oil (asphalt) this year, so we need to take advantage of this cost situation " said Whitmire in a written statement

He also went to to say that efficient scheduling will be critical to achieving the 2016 plan The plan is also subject to changes due to weather or damage conditions

Whitmire says that the Precinct 1 road crew should be especially commended for rising to the challenge presented.

Precinct 1 will also be working with each city for repair work. "I expect Van Alstyne to approve a list this week and we have submitted cost information to Howe, Tom Bean and Dorchester" said Whitmire

By the end of this year, Whitmire says that Precinct 1 will have repaved over 50 percent of the paved roads since he took office.

"While we are not able to start paving any of our gravel roads this year, I do feel we will begin within a couple of years In the meantime, to reduce dusty conditions, we will continue to transition our rock roads to decomposed granite or ground asphalt in the vicinity of homes " said Whitmire
