Council approves budget of $2,876,321

During the work session, Mayor Stanley told the council that they were being asked to open up two jobs from part-time to fulltime.

Independence Day came at a much needed time. Our country has had a rough couple of weeks. While I would love to go on a tirade about the moral compass of our 21st century America, I'll refrain. On my left shoulder is a loudmouth that won't shut up, speaks what he deems the truth and looks like Dale Hansen. However, there's another figure on my right shoulder that is humble, reserved and resembles Andy Taylor. I'm going to channel my innerAndy Taylor here and only say, "Simmer down now."

Those two positions were to move a part-time utility worker to full-time and part-time economic development director to full-time.

I like this place called America. There's a lot to like about it, even with its flaws. It's an amazing Mayor Jeff Stanley did the place. It is ever changing and becoming less recognizable from, say, 20 years ago. But it is still the greatest country in the world and I'll forever be proud to be an American.

Howe citizens and some from surrounding communities were on-hand at Howe High School last night for the 5th Annual Howe Fireworks Festival put on by the Howe Fire Department (HFD). The fireworks show has become the biggest

fundraising event for the department on an annual basis and the totals weren't in as of time the publication was finalized. HFD will use part of the fundraising amount to go towards making the show even bigger next year. continued on Page #5
