"I think the rain might have gotten to me plus I knew in my head that they were going to be good " said Stubblefield "I was thinking that I was going to show them how good I am and that's not me. I think it was mental."

Rupert thinks the rough start was due to nerves. "Torrey's (Stubblefield) a freshman and she's not a freshman in regards to experience but she's still a freshman and wants to do well for her teammates She knows that when she's out there, she can be dominant And so if things start to go downhill, it didn't surprise me that it snowballed At the time I knew that a change was needed as far as the umpire just seeing a different delivery Madisyn came in and thank goodness threw a lot of strikes I figured if we could get out of that first inning tied, I was going to bring Torrey back in."

Stubblefield did return to the rubber in the second inning and settled down quite nicely and allowing no more runs over the next five innings of work Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers pitcher also seemed to settle in a bit and blanked Howe over the next two innings

In the fourth inning, the Lady Bulldogs put another four-spot on the board ignited by a single by Erin Blackburn Blackburn stole second base and Peyton Streetman advanced her third on a ground out to third After Peyton Tinney, who was playing in her first game in five games due to injury) popped out, Kayla Anderson slammed a hard ground ball down the left field line that scored Blackburn.

"I love the pressure" said Anderson "I know that's weird, but I feel like it something that has to be done and I just do it "

Stubblefield then singled, Hargrove walked and Dani Ross reached on an error which allowed Anderson and Stubblefield to score Counts singled to drive in Hargrove and Ross was cut down at the plate trying to score from second on the single

Blackburn sparked another run in the fifth by singling with one out She would eventually score on a Streetman single.

Meanwhile, Stubblefield kept dominating Glen Rose hitters and eventually would tally 13 strikeouts in the game

With Howe leading 9-3 entering the final stanza, the girls added another three insurance runs for good measure Counts led off the inning with a single and then stole second Two outs later, Streetman reached on an error which moved Counts to third Tinney drove her home with a single and Streetman would score on an error Anderson then hit a line drive triple in the right field alley which would score Tinney to give Howe the 12-3 lead headed to the bottom of the seventh.

Glen Rose single to start the inning and then scored on a double, but Stubblefield would eventually strike out the side and Howe walked off the rain soaked turf in Bowie as area champions.

Rupert said that the turning poing in the game was Stubblefield's rebound

"Torrey coming back in the second and third inning was huge for her" said Rupert "That gave her the confidence and she had the potential to be dominant and she really was "

The Lady Bulldogs will head back to Bowie on Thursday to face Brock in game one of the three game regional championship series. Game two is scheduled for Friday and game three (if needed) will be on Saturday, May 15. Brock eliminated Howe in the regional championship in basketball
