A grand opening
by Monte Walker Well, today is my wife's birthday, so I guess I'd better say something about it so I can continue eating at night. All jokes aside, she's a pretty awesome girl who us boys in the house appreciate very much. Happy Birthday Michelle! But no, you still can't have your own column. Finally, the rain has stopped long enough for the youth baseball and softball leagues to start. Ferguson Field was overhauled and looks brilliant thanks to the efforts of Josh Daniels, Michael Portman, Michael Stephens, Laura Duree and their spouses. If Tom Grieve's "equalization theory" is a true equation, this April could be one of the most devastating tornado seasons in the last 100 years or so. As of March 12, only 27 tornadoes had been documented across the nation. This is the slowest start to the year, tornadowise, since the 21 tornadoes recorded through March 12, 2003. February was eerily quiet, with only two tornadoes reported during the month; one in California, the other in Florida. The SPC went 51 straight days without issuing either a tornado or severe thunderstorm watch through February 25. This was the longest such watchless streak since late 1986. If the law of averages balance out for the year, April will be very scary through "Tornado Alley" of Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

Before the game on Howe's brand new field, Howe and Pottsboro honored the NCTC athletes that lost their lives in 2014. It was a night to celebrate. The Lady Bulldogs piled on three more runs in the bottom of the third. A triple by Dani Ross ignited the offense, scoring Anderson. That was followed up by Counts' double, plating Ross.

Howe Chamber to host free downtown concert Last year Founders Day was hours away from being cancelled at the last minute due to the lack of vendor participants. With the infiltration of Keep Howe Beautiful and now the new restarted Howe Chamber of Commerce, this year's event is scheduled to be the largest and is anticipated to be the most attended Founders Day event since the very first one 29 years ago. The new Howe Area Chamber of Commerce has enlisted not one, but two live music entertainment events to take place in the area between Abby's Restaurant and City Hall.
