Howe's That by Monte Walker The Cable ONE and KXII showdown that happened this weekend had a smell of high-stakes poker with advertising rates at the stake. Knowing a little about marketing and media since my days of working radio at age 19, I've learned a little about how things work in the media world. Cable ONE advertising is a much cheaper alternative to KXII and even KTEN television rates. If KXII could eliminate cable advertising, they could increase theirs even more; especially if they converted everyone to DISH or DirecTV since they are carried with them also. However, I have friends on both sides of the fence. One of my best friends, Scott Caldwell, is an account executive with Cable ONE advertising while a longtime family friend and Howe Enterprise advertiser, Chris Cavender of Cavender Home Theater both have a dog in this hunt.

Howe Fire Department truck caught on fire; no injuries Last Monday afternoon, a unit of the Howe Fire Department fleet was on a call to Van Alstyne answering a call to a hay bale fire when the irony of irony happened. The fire truck responsible for putting out fires actually caught on fire itself.
I'm happy that Chris was able to get some new business out of the bickering. And I'm glad for my friend Scott, who still has Howe Fire Fighter a great job with a great Howe Fire Department's Brush Truck on fire last Monday company.
