Serving the community of Howe since 1963
Volume #52, Edition #26
Howe's That It was a cold and rainy night Saturday evening, but Jim Jackson of Jim Jackson Electrical Services Inc. spent nearly two hours getting the victory light hung in downtown Howe. The victory light came off of the old press box that Roger Brown took down before installing his new one that he built. The light was delivered to our house back in the summer and stayed there without a plan of what to do with it. After purchasing the downtown building, it became clear in my mind where the light would go. Back in 2008, it took a sales pitch to Superintendent Kevin Wilson to put a "V" on the back of the press box. The victory light was removed in 1992 in favor for a Bulldog logo that was lit on occasion and the tradition was lost. Wilson agreed to the new victory light as we split the cost on it. It is funny how one community can respond so favorably to a light in a box. It's not the light, but what it represents. It represents the community and school district coming together as one and celebrating victorious moments. It represents traditions of past and the goals of tomorrow.
