The Houston and Texas Central Rallroad. cane along and changed the name,the locatlon and the hlstory of the Communlty. In LB74 "Summlt" beeane 'Elone' ln a new locatlon, and named. for Colonel Howe, an executlve of the rallroad. Landowner Jabez Hanlng d.onated. the land for the rlght-ofway and also land for the new townslte of Howe. Ilowe lncorporated ln 1884, and George iI. McCrary was the flrst llayor.W. W. Smlth, J. T. Ed.wards, ilenry Stevens, and S,'r^I. Young were the f lrst "Clty Fathers", then ca.lled Alderman. J. 1,1. Culver was townappolnted narshall and later served twenty years as lvrayor.
